I love this coat, it would fit me, and i would wear it - but I'm not paying £450 for it!

awesome coat. i would have been very tempted to make on offer if it had been my size.
at first glance i thought it was a shawl collar, but it looks like there's a collar and lapel.

A fur collar can be added to a coat for a fraction of the price of the Burberry. ;)

Yeah, how does that work? I occasionally come across these detached fur collars in thrift/vintage stores. What does one do, just sew them on?
The collars can be sewn on directly or they can be made to be detachable by use of buttons or snaps. Years ago my mother had a detachable collar made up for me using the residual from an Astrakhan (Persian lamb) coat she was having restyled. The furrier/tailor fashioned a collar with a backing that had button loops and corresponding buttons were sewn on the coat.

I didn't wear the collar that often but when I did it was a real attention getter. Lots of comments, with the ladies having a seemingly uncontrollable urge to pet and stroke the fur. :)

I've currently got an old astrakhan coat sitting at home just waiting to be taken apart to make a collar for a coat.

I think what appeals to me about the Burberry coat (as opposed to later examples) is just that it will be so damn heavy.

I am still tempted by it, although - apart from the fur collar - it's very similar to a 1930s Burberry coat I already have. However since an unexpected bill of £2000 to fly the family home from Canada (following a medical emergency that insurance don't want to pay out for) I doubt if I'd survive spending a few hundred quid on such a coat! I would predict one very angry wife!
