Full Hat Collection Photographs Thread

I enjoyed Garrett's movie so much I felt inspired to try an iPhone movie myself. I have hats strewn around the house in various stages of pre-wear and after-wear R&R, but most of them are kept in a spare bedroom (Sophie's childhood room) that also houses Donna's sewing machine and her costume resource library. Each wire shelf can hold about twenty hats maximum, with foam rings to protect the wide ribbons when they are stacked. I keep many of the special hats that I wear rarely in boxes with post-it notes to remember what's inside. One box has a big stack of old caps. The movie doesn't show anything too clearly (I might try again in better light) - but hope you enjoy the look into one man's illness.

RLK has posted a shot or two of hallways lined with hat boxes. I think a fisheye lens and X-ray film would be needed to get the full panorama.

The foam works well to allow the hats to stack with minimum muss. 1/2" foam cut into 3" strips with two staples at the back to make a ring. A quick brushing removes the inevitable felt compression where the hats touch. I try to keep as many hats out of boxes as possible.

Alan, that's a beautiful video. Slow enough pan that we can appreciate the hats. My wife loves your photograph with multiple images of Saturn and now I can show her this video when she gets too 'nosy' about my hats.

Allan and Garrett, these are incredible! Nice video and good to see the "time-lapsed" breadth of your amazing collections. Really quite good views of the hats, even if brief!

I tried again. The best I could come up with was categorizing by style, which of course got tricky with the crossovers. I'm getting a total of 86, and yet still hankering for more, especially after viewing the last couple submissions!

Superb, B-man! Also SO well organized. The "fish eye" reflection in your chrome parade helmet is great!

This is nothing compared to many, but I LOVE all these hats. That is why they "made the cut" and will never be sold. 3 of the felts are Cane Rod Maker customs, the other one being a Knox porker from (I believe) the 50's. The Irish flat caps are country gentleman and the Panamas are a mixture of Stetson and Panama Bob's.

Nice to hear you are looking for your first vintage hat, this can be a very rewarding little hobby.

Thanks for the compliment on my Borsalino. I can't really add much to help you identify it, there is no model name to be found anywhere on the hat. I'd say it was made sometime during the 50's.

I was wearing this hat earlier this week, as it happens - one of my favorites

The two threads Alan mentioned will be helpful for you. Lounge members often sell hats in the classified forum (it is where I found this one) and a lot of times the folks here offer them at much better prices than you'll find on eBay.

The Borsalino Brotherhood thread is home to a ton of great info on this manufacturer and lots of super photos too.

I hope you find yourself a nice vintage hat soon. Your search will be easier (and less expensive) if you wear a smaller size, if you're a large size you might have to be a little more patient and prepared to pay more.

Hi Folks

Just wanted to share my humble collection with you fine folks... I have learned a lot here on FL and here are some of my hats.

two light weight ADAM Excutive models- with 3ins brims are my favorites..
Black Dobb's Homburg is my dress up hat...
The brown and beige smaller brim stetson were purchased when I was first starting my collection and getting into fedoras therefore while they are not my favorites I have a sentimental attachment to them both...
The blue stingy brim fedora is a "piaget" and I receive many, many compliments on its color, also I cannot find another from this hatter therefore a keeper...

Anyway I just wanted to share with you great folks my humble collection and let me say, the hunt for great fedora's, homburgs, stingy's and bowlers, is so much fun... I am presently looking for a vintage bowler. My size is 7 1/4...
