FSC Barber Shop in New York

I looked for a single "Barber Shop" thread on several forums, but there doesn't seem to be one, so I thought I just start a new thread. Maybe we could merge them somehow.
Anyhow, I just had a WONDERFUL tonsorial experience, and I wanted to tell the world. A good buddy by the name of Michael Haar (who should be a member here but isn't) is a barber and I just went to his shop for the first time. It's called FSC Barber, and there are 3 locations, one in the West Village one on the Lower East Side, and one in San Francisco. They are good old fashioned (more or less) tonsorial parlors. As Michael said, they try to blur the line between past and present, rather than simply trying to recreate the past. Anyhow it works, and I enjoyed getting a haircut for possibly the first time ever. Highly recommended.

Really nice looking place, the prices are not sky high, either. I also noted they sell some items for us fellows to shave with, and I imagine for hair as well.

Wish I could agree. $40 for a basic haircut is very pricey, in my book. I used to go to a barber shop near me, but the prices kept climbing until they finally reached the $40 mark, and that was my limit.

Now I spend $17 every two weeks (with tip, a total of $44 a month), keeping my hair nice and trim, as opposed to $50 for a single haircut, once a month, getting a bit shaggy in between visits.

I go to the barber in the Port Authority bus station on 8th Ave. in NYC (I'm in there daily for my commute to and from work) for a haircut and shave once a month for $16.00 each (+ tip).

I was surprised to see how much the price for a basic men's cut had risen in recent years, also. Most barbers, or even salons, charge upwards of $30.00.

The men in my life get off cheaply - They don't have to pay me to cut their mops.
