Quiet luxury perfection
I have worn the Melton Motor Trench less than 6 times. Mint condition. Like off the rack at the Private White showroom.
This fits like a USA Medium or 40.
Pit to pit is 22"
Falls right below knee and I am 5 ft 8
This coat is perfect for chilly winters. 30 ounces. No lining in body so it can breathe enough to reduce becoming clammy inside. Tightly woven enough to protect from the sharp wind blasts here.
Lining only by shoulder blades and arms for easy on off.
I am a Size 3 in both the Private White Donegal and Melton Motor Trench. The Donegal fits a bit more generously but both can accommodate layers for my 5ft 8 inc frame, 160lbs and 33 jeans waist. I am a 39" chest for custom garments.
What is Ivory Black?
Ivory black is a warm black with a slight brown undertone.
It's a popular choice for artists because it creates a rich, deep black that doesn't appear too harsh or cold.
Style
Inspired by despatch motorcycle rider trench coats from WWI WWII. see photos.
Longer than a peacoat or bridge coat. shorter than the Donegal. Great daily driver. It is black so you don't have to worry about any stains.
It exudes style and luxury without being in anyone's face. Very unique vs the sea of peacoats walking around.
While the wool is not double faced, the mill did a great job. it has a very soft hand for 100% melton. Almost a hint of cashmere. And because the body is unlined, it is lighter than you would expect. there is a lining only in the sleeves and shoulder blade area for easy on and off.
Easy to live with
The deep patch pockets and document pocket are lined in cashmere and fit anything I could find. The interior pockets can fit wine bottles! Love the collar and the latch system! Love the belt and the D Rings which help it from sliding out. But apparently the D rings are more style and a nod to WWII when soldiers would hang water bottles or grenades!
