FS: Akubra Fed IV carbon grey

Haven't worn this in years, and the crown is just a smidgen too tall for my face. And now I need the space! Size 56 that is tight, as Akubras are after they're broken in.

You do know that the crown height can be brought down to better match your face and head, right? I've done it to 3 of my Fed IVs with very good results. Mine all sit at 4.25" at the front pinch and are perfect for me. They were originally 4.5" or higher.

A diamond or c-teardrop helps the widen the crown (usually a good thing, afaic) and keep it from resting on your pate.

Of course, but I need the space and I'm putting my money where my mouth is with Akubras and divesting myself. I dont 'need' it as a bad weather hat, so I don't really need it at all.

So, no place for Akubras? Come to think of it, if I had a smaller hat size I might be there with you. Hmmm.

Yah, vintage availability is definitely why I never filled up with Akubras. But as far as rain, I'm mostly just wearing modern westerns. I've found my BSHW shrugs off rain admirably as well. My hatco Boss Raw Edge was made with deadstock felt, so I'm pretty sure it won't shrink, and if it does, that's ok because it's a padded 7 1/8.

It's all pragmatic, I swear!

It's not so tight that I have to really push my custom Fawcett band block into it (22"), but it fits on my head tighter than say, my Stetson size 7s.

Dang. My band block is 22.25" I think it'll be too small for me. That's too bad.
