Up for grabs we have a true standout piece - a vintage 1960s/1970s orange cafe racer manufactured by Cal Leather out of Ventura, California. A truly eye-catching piece and a perfect representation of the 60s/70s motorcycle era and aesthetic. This jacket isn't just a garment, it's a bold statement and a time capsule, embodying the spirit of the era.
History:
Cal-Leather began making leather products in Ventura, California in 1927 as "Star Glove & Leather". By the 1940s, the company was making jackets under the "Cal-Leather" label for motorcycle riders. Cal-Leather quickly gained a reputation among riders as a highly dependable apparel company and was commissioned by the LAPD in the 1940s to develop and produce the official LAPD jacket for their motorcycle force. Other law enforcement agencies throughout the country followed suit, as did the outlaws they were going after.
Cal-Leather has become an extremely collectible and valued brand in the vintage leather jacket community, as their jackets are known for their timeless style and sophistication, which encompass both classic and contemporary elements. Their vintage jackets are well known for their commitment to quality, attention to detail, and amazing quality, in regards to both leather and hardware.
Many Cal-Leather jackets made in the mid-20th century were produced for private labels or law enforcement agencies and do not have a label. In accurately identifying a true Cal-Leather cafe racer jacket, many identifying features can be utilized. Such identifiers include, but are not limited to: mouton-lined sleeve cuffs for wind protection; trademark "six panel" back feature (seen on some, but not all Cal Leather jackets), stitching details throughout the jacket, smooth satin lined black interior; consistency of the leather hide, and more. This jacket exhibits all of these features and more, and is without a doubt a true Cal-Leather motorcycle jacket.
This jacket is in very clean condition. Quite honestly it appears that this jacket was worn for maybe a season or two at most. Minimal markings on the hide, the lining is completely free of tears and is in very clean condition, all zippers, pockets, snaps work perfectly and without fault. Little features such as the yellow stitching contrasts beautifully against the orange of the jacket. Really just a beautiful piece. It has some very small pinholes where I imagine some sort of racing pins were once placed. Super punk, super fashionable, piece of excellent riding gear or just to complete your look.
There is no size tag, so please refer to the measurements pictured. Please allow a small degree of discrepancy due to human error. Please note that as this is a vintage piece, minor wear marks and blemishes should be expected. Any significant damage would be exhibited.
Please also note that I am not a professional clothier, but the opinions written are based on significant handling and research of American made motorcycle garments throughout the 20th century.
This jacket will be quickly shipped upon payment - $300 shipped in the continental U.S. via PayPal Friends & Family. If you have any questions, please reach out.
