it feels like cowhide in fact.

How does cowhide feel?

As for eastman, their Vintage horsehide is more creasy and wrinkly intentionally, but they do have coating on the surface of the hide. Becase they do the back painting, protection coating is needed, also to make it look oily too.

You're probably referring to Eastman's A-2? Those are different hides. I was referring to the ELMC Californian in black which isn't painted, has no coating and doesn't feel oily.

Anyway, comparing one leather to another and making statements which can be generalized is always difficult (if not impossible). I've owned four Californians and each of the brown ones was slightly different. One was substantially heavier and another had totally different grain and temper. This black Californian's leather is totally different from the brown ones.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and different people prefer different fits but as far as the cheapo comparison I don’t know what’s the point of it... you could find a crappy jacket in any sort of fit these days right?

£90 real skin from Amazon. Trim and tight if that’s your idea of perfect fit.

I didn't mean to post the comparison as a negative and apologize if it came out that way. I love to wear my jackets both hugely over-sized and skintight. I just pointed out the jacket's got that... Kind of semi ironic at the moment, baggy, 80's Perfecto vibe to it and again, while not being my thing, I don't see it as a negative, just that most people venture into high-end market to score a perfectly - as in, trim, neat, clean; etc. - fitting jacket since most of the cheap stuff indeed does suck ass and I'm simply pointing out to the OP if he's down with that, nobody happier than me but that don't change the fact it's a different kind of fit altogether.

Another question, but how is ride black different from their vintage black. I bought a Mulholland and believe it is vintage black, but the sales order doesn’t say:rolleyes:

yeah i mean elc a-2, and i do find some ELMC with coating, and some without, it is always hard to generalize, like i say when compare between 18 centinela, 19 la brea, 20 mulholland. But I think they are trying something, having feedback from the dealers and customers. In case to customize a jacket, I write to David of ELC about my request on the hide, more wrinkly, less wrinkly. They would observe, and they are happy to cater to the market reaction.
Anyway, it is not meaningful to predict what they do. supply reacts to the demand. It is just sth interesting to talk about.

Rude black is dyed grey before the black top coat is applied, when worn the grey will come though.
Vintage black is dyed brown before the black top coat is applied.
Blackjack is dyed reddish brown before the black top coat is applied.

Bassically the difference is what colour the "teacore effect" will show.

Nearly most of the mulhollands are vintage black, tea core.
rude black is grey core, but the aging of color should be slower
black jack is red tea core,

if he does not say, probably you buy a fake one from chinese.

Thank you. I figured as much but wasn’t sure. I’m reading the link that Carlos posted here. Great information!

I bought through Speedway so I am assuming it is genuine, if that’s what you mean. Thanks for the information.

Good point. As usual, it comes down to what looks good on your specific body type. A lesson we all learn here.
Choose the cuts and colors that work for you. A fun journey.
Absolutely!
Sometimes it's expensive and sometimes it can be frustrating; but yes, it is fun!

Comparing leathers from different tanneries is nearly impossible. I currently own 8 jackets made from Shinki HH and the variation is tremendous, both in terms of weight and finish.

I handled and tried on several ELMC jackets a few years ago and the Italian HH used on those jackets was materially thinner and lighter than any of my Shinki jackets. IMHO, it does not feel nearly as robust as Shinki HH. I like the leather and may own an ELMC jacket one day precisely because it is lighter and easy to wear in a warm climate.

I previously owned two BK jackets with Liberty HH and I personally was very disappointed with this leather, which had the characteristics of vinyl. That said, others here have had much more favorable experiences with Liberty, so perhaps the jackets I had were made from a subpar batch.

The peculiar and unflattering fit of several FW leather jackets is striking. Even their promotional photographs are unflattering. I understand the desire to wear a looser fitting jacket, but certain of the FW cuts transcend loose fitting and are downright balloonish in the upper arms and chest. Not a look I fancy, but to each his own.

Yeah I agree, that's why I think it's too large for me. Loose fit I would go for a2 jacket instead. Motorcycle jacket has to be tight fit.
And I don't like the liberty hh, one of the reason they are too confident about their product, and I have bought several shinki hh jacket before that.
But I am worried if 42 centinela would be too small for me. One can never make both ends well. Maybe this jacket is not my type. Go and search for the next one then.

I'd get that Marilyn jacket if the owner is selling it. If not and you have your heart set on one of these, look into sizing down one. Check out the measurements of the next size down online and determine if it would be a doable fit. But I love the Marilyn and wouldn't care that's a little too big, it would be worth it to have that on the back. And a little too big is better than a little too small. You can wear it with sweatshirts, hoodies etc during cold weather months

Is the severe taper in the sleeves due to the wearers in the photos wearing them zipped? Because I never wear my MC jackets with the sleeves zipped. I don't think they're really made to look good like that. Wearing them zipped really is something that's meant to be done while riding. And they're snug in the forearm and wrist when zipped for that reason, because you don't want a loose fit on the wrist when you ride. This jacket, does the balloon effect in the bicep area sort of go away and drape more naturally if you unzip the sleeves?

I also think this just might be FW keeping to vintage aesthetics. A lot of 40s-60s bike jackets had these ballon like sleeves that then taper down to the wrist. Of course not all; so there’s plenty that do not. But I’ve come across a ton in that era. Since vintage aesthetics and fast aging etc..is all the rage right now I would not be surprised at all if they are purposely making them that way to fit the look.

that happens because the sleeve is too long, if i unzip the sleeve, it would probably cover slightly little of my wrist. Centinela has longer and tighter sleeve, i think the design is made for riding. Just like fourspeed leather, without special request, their sleeve would be 2-3cm longer than other same size leather jacket.

These don't look that wide, but maybe the photo setup is deceiving.
