A huge FA fan here, ever since I discovered him way back when I was in seventh grade, back in what-1971/-1972?? His sense of style was not unsimilar to Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

That my social/ballroom dancing Mr. wants to learn not just a step or two from FA'S and Ginger's "Cheek to Cheek" number, but the entire routine to dance it with me, only sways the case more towards Mr. Astaire's side for me!

Of note: IRL, Cary was as cool as a cucumber while Fred was a notorious worry wort..........

It's like Roy Rogers vs. Gene Autry.....although I don't think either of them ever wore a tie as a belt.

Anyone tried that? Results?

I read the most recent blog on Sartorialist and I confess he makes an interesting case for Fred Astaire. I'm curious to know your thoughts, people. Bartenders, if this belongs in a better location feel free to move it, I won't be offended!

Found the actual article: http://www.thesartorialist.com/photos/astaire-vs-grant-by-g-bruce-boyer/

Both had style, but if I had to choose one over the other I'd choose Grant, because he was more masculine in his style and manner.

There was a line uttered by a woman whose name escapes me....... A woman might give her heart and soul to Fred Astaire – but she saved her body for Gene Kelly.....:p

You should get over to Hats every now and then. He's posted a picture or two up.

He's not my type, but I wouldn't punch him in the face for no reason either. ;)
