Just wanted to add my thanks to all who give their time to maintain this wonderful site. The new look was quite a shock, but I'm getting used to it. The only small issue I have is with the bright orange text on black - the lower case is fine but the bold and capital letters are almost jumping on the page!

I'm getting repeated bouts of a pop-up asking for username and password "authentication" from something called http://reports.superstock.com. This happens when I clicked a link (to another FLounge thread) posted by resortes to a pair of his collegiate flared trousers. Is this one of the FLounge advertisers, or is there targetted advertising in the new FLounge?

bk

Somewhere on that page a member has posted a link to something (likely an image) that requires their passwrod (or a password) to access. So you get that popup. This is a long-standing problem, not with the software but with user behavior. Link me and I'll remove the offedning post.

I've been running a Google search for threads on B15s. (Using Google out of habit, as under the old forum setup it was a much more accurate search facility). Google returns relevant results, but the links bring me to completely different threads (mostly in the Powder Room, oddly enough). Not sure whether that's something that just needs to settle down?

The thread URLs are now different after the upgrade, and it will take a while for googlebot to reindex our pages. It's actually doing it now, so expect googling things to not work exactly right for the time being. Our in-house search has been vastly improved, though.

This is not one of our advertisers. Can you send me the URL so I can see what's happening? nathan.flowers@gmail.com

edit:--whoops, didn't see Scott's reply. Send to either of us.

Big-time thanks to you guys who have put so much work into the overhaul. I like the new color palette (except for the ghastly orange, but that's a personal issue (I hate the color orange and find it acceptable only on oranges and in Holland on Queen's Day) and find it very easy on the eyes. So far, I think the functionality improvements are very good and the pages load significantly faster. FYI, I view the site on a Mac Powerbook Pro with the Camino browser (Camino is way faster than any of the other browsers, so page loads are almost instantaneous for me).

Aside from the orangeness, the only thing I don't like are the new thread icons. To my eyes, they're too big and clunky. I think the old ones were much nicer.

We agree, thread icons are going to have to go.

Is it just me, or has some of the orange (like the lettering) now yellow? I like the yellow better.

Yes, most of the orange is now the same yellowish color it was on the original Lounge. Still tracking down a few variants around the board, though.

Links seem to be a problem. Every link I click on in the sticky "Historically GREAT THREADS of the Fedora Lounge!" returns a totally non-related thread.

I'm unable to log in using Firefox. It welcomes me but doesn't let me in. No such problem with Internet Explorer.

That's one we're going to have to go through and update the links. Basically every link has had its URL changed in the update. The upside is the google search rankings will be more relevant. Downside is all existing links are now broken.

I have to say, I like the improved speed. Very noticeable. That's an improvement. As far as the aesthetics of the new format, I was perfectly happy with the old one. This seems a little more "modern" in style, not necessarily a plus, but I'll see how I like it.
My one serious issue is type size. If I set my font size so that the text of the posts is legible (I have very middle aged vision, and small fonts make me nuts) then the heading are all too large, and those letters start OVERLAPPING. Upper lines over lap lower ones, or get cut off.
I'm still exploring, tho. Maybe I'll find solutions as I dig.

I have to agree, the font size is much smaller than the old site and is hard to see, especially since its grey on a slightly less grey background. I can live with the grey on grey but please make the font size bigger for the post text!

What browser are you using? You should be able to control the font size from your computer.

Nathan,

I think the issue is that -just- the FL has a smaller size font then previously. Adjusting the font size via the browser or computer would then make everything else extra large.

Someone above saw that in the CSS it was dictating a font size...that is probably the issue.

I am still having toruble trying to figure out when the difference between posts that are older than when I last logged in & newer posts.

Hmm... Is it just me or the gray letters just got more gray. Hard to read now with the gray background.
Edit: just went around reading posts and yes, the grey on grey is very eye straining. Any chance to add some white?

Yes, I already have my general computer font and icon sizes enlarged because when I switched to Vista it made everything so teeny tiny. I can't readjust it to anything bigger or its going to mess other things up. I don't think it's just my computer, the new font size really is smaller.

I tend to agree, not quite enough contrast for these old eyes. I don't know that you need to go all the way to white, but the #ccc in the sidebar would be better, IMO.

The only other suggestion is to tweak the color of the text or icon for new posts/threads. I have trouble picking them out.

Overall, the upgrade looks great. Good job!

Ken
