Reminds me when I was quite small (early '50s) my Father and I stayed in Gatlinburg,Tenn..on the way to Florida.
I remember staying at a Motel with a deck(porch) on our room over the river. Nice room(nothing fancy)..but $9.95 per night. Now would probably be $130..Ha. We crossed the Smokies and visited the Cherokee Indian reservation. As a little kid my only perception of Indians was from the westerns I watched on TV or movies. We entered the reservation and sure enough..there were real Indians..!! As we began the tour a little Indian kid in full Indian gear ran up to the Indian 'squaw'(mom) and said.." Mawwmy..kin I have a piece of cane-dy"..!! I was floored..!! There was an Indian speaking southern talk instead of Indian talk. I just couldn't believe it..!!
About ten years ago we took our Son(now 20) on that same Indian reservation tour. Yep they still talked HillBilly talk ya'll...but it didn't bother my young Son a bit since Cowboy and Indian movies hadn't been I part of his more modern everyday childhood. However..I still am kinda wide-eyed in awe..and slightly amused when I hear an Indian in full gear and war paint sound like Bocephis or Dolly Parton explaining their ancient Indian history.
