I agree to Edward on all of the points. Maybe the punkrock background does the trick. Fitting in is not as important then? Also I don't need to prove I am a "manly man". In fact I feel unnerved by the discussions on the FL. I even care less when this topic is brought up in some mainstream magazines or whatever.
But I guess the original poster was willing to find out why the vintage scene changed and less men seem to dress the part? Or if the buying habits changed? I can identify with the viewpoint of a seller because my girlfriend is in (vintage inspired) fashion and also with a cheapskate buyer because...well I am just out of the university and don't have a well paid job yet. If I had I certainly would spend more on suits and shoes (the weak point in my wardrobe).
I know some men who dress vintage in germany and have an awesome collection. Some of them bought vintage since the 80s are used to the prices back then. Maybe they don't want to spend more. But there also some new boys. The look at ebay for hours, go into second hand shops, search the fleamarkets and often don't find stuff that fits. (except for the small and thin men...Oh the envy!) Time equals money and if you search for weeks and months the sensation of a lucky find is really great. Maybe they just should "fork over the cash" and stop looking for a bargain? Maybe....
