For over $1000 I want the jacket I want! (Aero HWM)

Oh, pauleway, I'm not sure you want to do this. I ordered a Bootlegger (which has the same side panels and straps as a HB) with a bi-swing back; the result was unexpected and not what I'd hoped for. The combo produced a definite 'flying squirrel' effect. It's a beautiful jacket, but, would better fit someone who spends 10 hours a day in gym bench-pressing locomotive engines. I got just what I asked for, done supremely well by Aero, but, there's a reason different models have different designs. It's your money, and, none of my business, I know, but, my mistake might save you some grief.

I just tried to put an order in to Thurston/Insurrection for a HB with a Bi-Swing back and Wade told me Aero would not do it. Suggested I pick another style like the LHB that has a Bi-swing, but I knew what I wanted, and how I wanted it to fit and look, so I just decided not to order the jacket. Like you say, for the money you are spending, you should be able to get what you want, with a few small tweeks, or just not spend that kind of money, especially if you have a few nice jackets in your closet already!!:cool::p

Let me ask this - do you zip up the jacket often? Sometimes? Never?If one of the latter, you might be OK, but if it's too tight, it will suck zipped...just a thought.
I guess it depends on the weather. Whenever possible I would wear it unzipped though.

You sir... invented enabling... How many wretched, Horween sniffing addicts ARE you responsible for? Eh? Hmm?

Worf
+1. Butte is guilty as charged. In fact he is single handedly responsible for Aero's backlog as an enabler of Horween addiction. ;) :D

Jack - Thank you for your advice, I do appreciate it. I do have a Aero 50's HB with a Bi-Swing back and I like it very much and it works for my semi-narrrow waist and my wide back and shoulders.(I am not a body-builder). I wanted the 30's style because of the slim fit at the waist, and the Bi-Swing gives me a little more freedom of movement where i need it. No problem really, I do have a nice stash of jackets and them not wanting to make the modification saves me from spending more dough!!!;)

Just realized that Horween is located in Chicago, where I happen to live. Hmmm- wonder if it might be fun, (or even possible,) to pick out my own hide and have a jacket made from it...

Anyone ever done this?

I think that Forest for the Trees sourced a Horween FQHH and had Johnson Leather in SF make him a jacket. Pictures were posted by him on this site, and he was very happy with everything.

The HWM is designed to be a boxy fit. With your body shape and the type of fit you want, a 30's Half Belt or another of Aero's slim fits might be your perfect jacket rather than the HWM.
Don't like 1/2 belts, the high waist/blouse effect no good for me. Also they are more dressed up style IMO, HWM has the rugged look I want, a jacket that can worn worn on a construction jobsite but would also work great for semi-formal occasions. (Again IMO)

Holly @ Aero suggested sizing down also. I have a wested Indy jacket size 44. The measure from shoulder seam to seam is 20.5", my 46 HWM is 21.5". The Indy is tight, can't wear anything but tight cotton t under. I know they are dif cuts, but it makes me nervous. Holly told me that a 46 shoulder w/44 body may be a possibility. I like the sound of that option.

I think if you have a look at the new models, which will be up on the Lounge later today as part of a feature on the Trade Week, there is definitely something for you. I was trying it on yesterday and it's essentially a waisted Highwayman with a twist. ;)

Im a 40 chest but my Highwayman is a 38.

My 30´s HB is a 40 and my CafeRacer is a 40.

So sixing down could help, but I think its also has alot to do with physique, if you have broad shoulders and trim waist then its gonna be loose in the waist since the design is square. Personally I am kinda square so it fits me trim :D:D

Which one were you referring to?

The Speedway. It's very close to the old HWM, but it's got elasticated panels in the side, which takes away the more boxy fit.

I don't believe the Speedway as elasticated panels...at least not from what I can tell from the Aero site and posts here. Close up photos of the side of the Speedway shows a pull tab;

The "Cropduster" does have elastic panels however;

Apologies. I was quoting from memory. As you say, the Cropduster is the model I was referring to *puts glass down, stops watching Boardwalk Empire*
