Looked better before the alterations IMO, but what was up with the speed hook and eyelet color not matching?
Hmm, I don't know why they decided to use two different colors really(never noticed before you told me haha).

I couldn't stand the original color(bought at sale not really thinking, the classic you know) as I thought it was super dull in real life vs pictures on the net, making it hard to match.

@TartuWolf @bigmanbigtruck I'm glad for the honesty! as it should be :)

Cheers!

That said, I just ordered a pair of "Duckfeet" shoes, as per the discussion on TFL last week. Not really "barefoot" shoes, but with a broad toebox and very little heel elevation. Just curious at this point in time, but visually I guess they will work well enough with a simple pair of Jeans and a T-Shirt.

Update here: Shoes arrived yesterday; took me longer to conquer the bugs of the website than it took the box to swim over from Denmark.

Shoes are beautiful; leather is great. Pix sometime later. Bought a pair for my wife too, as a surprise and can´t break mine out without spoiling the gift.

The fit guide on the website is a fraud, though. They make you measure your feet in "mm" (which technically should be ideal, as due to the broad toe-box, lenght is really all that matters) and suggest a size.
I was unconvinvced from the get-go, despite assurances from the custom service teams (very responsive) and sized up one. Turns out, they fit, but two sizes up from the suggestion would have worked too.
IRecommendation: just pick your "normal" size and ignore the measuremnt-chart.

Got Truman's Gallun Horse Rump boots today. Really dig the shrunken hide revealing all the striations. Very chunky leather used here as well. Was kind of worried about how stiff it is and the break-in more likely to break my foot - but all things considered are surprisingly comfortable.

Thanks @Khilij & @Tom71 for sharing your experience with Truman

How versatile are black boots, really?

I'm after some Chelsea boots at the moment and instinctively I go for brown or tan - so all the boots I've got are brown or tan.

I feel like getting some in black as a bit of a change, but I don't want something that feels too 'smart' and serious.

Do you wear black?

I do have black shoes, but all black is not really my cup of tea. I think they always look a bit ‘hard’ and deep black swallows up shape and contour. But sometimes they still fit quite well and in that respect I think you should definitely have a few of them.

It’s funny you say that in a forum where half of leather jackets are black… do black jackets look too smart or serious to you? Same goes for boots.

But obvious there’s many types of chelsea boots. A pair of Blundstones and a pair of Carminas will look very differently.

Same here!

I have a pair of black Engineers and two pairs of black workboots, but for Chelseas, I always opt for brown. Don’t really know why.
Additionally, all my black boots have some kind of brown contrast to them (brown midsole, unfinished leather edges), so it’s not ‘all black’.

I think black anything (boots, jackets, trousers, whatever) is amazing, but if you’re not fully sold then just get some brown ones.

In my experience, burgundy or dark grey - not as dark as charcoal - are more versatile... case in point, my chelseas are in burgundy, dark grey and dark blue (not as versatile bur still good to use)

I've two pairs of black boots. A black dress Chelsea boot by Church shoes and they really only work with suits and chinos but my other pair is a black Red Wing Blacksmith boot and these pair well with jeans and chinos. Basically both the colour and style count when deciding what to wear them with. RM Williams do a great black Chelsea boot that in my opinion can be paired with most trousers/jeans.

If you're not into it, just get some brown ones. Nothing wrong with that. About a decade ago I didn't like wearing black at all. Now I quite like it, but I can relate to feeling like it's too serious. Don't get a color you're not comfortable in.

I really don't like black for jackets or boots at all , my job requires black boots and I don't really hate the look of my Thorogood 6201's but I'd rather have them in tobacco brown.

So while I don't like black boots I can live with them as a purposeful tool, and I do actually happen to have a pair of black boots on the way.

I don't normally prefer black boots, but I couldn't pass up trying a pair of these for $30.
1990's USGI ICW boots, sold as used because of shelf wear and missing tags but they're definitely new.

This pair is 1997 dated.

These things are a great value, mildew resistant leather, warm lining, Goodyear welted, and a dual density vibram outsole that's sewn through at the toes.
Intermediate cold / wet weather, should be great winter boots.

I added these black kilties I had just to change the look a bit, but I might order a pair in a different color if I find I really like them.

I'm not sure exactly which manufacturer made these, I know Bates, Bellview, possibly Thorogood, and possibly Wolverine had contracts for them but these aren't actually marked.
I bought 2 pairs, both '97 dated with no manufacturer on them.
