Flowers In My Hair: Style and Etiquette

I have an orange lily flower hair clip that seems fine for Fall to me. I don't think that lilies are too tropical, just keep stuff like hibiscus for summer.

If you still can't get over it, get some harvest-themed hair decorations.

I don't think I would wear an orchid during fall, but then again I mostly use a bright red carnation in my hair. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, I use it anyway.

I tend to shy away from to many tropical flowers in the fall and head towards any variety of autum looking leaves. They are wonderful and come in beautiful oranges, reds, yellows and some with hints of green in them. This way you get the hair accessories that we all love but don't look like you are going to some tropical oasis.

I tend to stay away from hair flowers in the winter but I ordered a Christmas hair flower which I never received. I was looking forward to wearing it the whole Christmas season.

I have a couple made out of felt that some how seem more appropriate for Fall.

I guess that would be a good starting point, if it is a flower (or representation of one) that would bloom in the Fall seems only natural.

Although I am prone to say, if it look fabulous or makes you feel fabulous, go for it.

I'm all for doing what you like. And I think if it is still fairly warm nobody would blink at a tropical flower. However, if you want a more traditionally fall flower, mums would be a great way to go.

Call me crazy but I saw your picture and it looks like you could make an entire ensemble out of Autmn leaves. With maybe a few berries. I would give a new twist to classic style... and you definetely look like you could pull off the whole Traditional yet Trendy look. I don't know that's just my opinion.

Well $ally with those eyes and face you could probably pull of anything. The other day it was a rare grey rainy day in LA and I ran into a woman wearing a bright red hibiscus in her hair - it kind of cheered me up. If you don't pay attention to any of the other silly fashion "rules" why start now?

On Friday I attended the funeral of a very vibrant woman. She hadn't wanted a funeral service - just a big party - but conventions were observed and we all went to the chapel. Her family asked us not to wear black, but instead for everyone to wear bright flowers and colours. Her trademark was always a hibiscus in her hair, and had been since the 60s. The funeral chapel was filled to overflowing, and virtually every woman had a flower tucked into her hat or on her outfit. I had a pink lily pinned to my dress.

It's true we don't really have seasonal flowers here anyway.
I was going to say "hang the rules" but I didn't want to sound like a pirate movie.
I've decided that even though the tropical flower set I have matches the fall fabric color-wise, it doesn't look right style-wise. So I'm going to make two outfits. Any excuse to sew for myself for a change...

I'm actually on overload about other deeper issues and it's coming out as a shallow fashion crisis.
