i was looking at flightjacket .com a-2 horsehide jacket does anybody here have one of his jacket. i was just wondering how heavy is horsehide any pictures will help thanks

Search US AUTHENTIC the name the company is usual known by. Quite a bit of info here already. People who have these have said the HH is on the heavy side and also somewhat vinyl-like. The goat is considered a higher quality nicer hide.

I got one a long time ago - 2002 - and eventually sold it help fund a Good Wear. So I can't speak to the quality of Shaul's current horsehide, but on my jacket: The hide was thick, tough, and very squeaky. The seal color topcoat was a nearly black brown, and was quite heavy. Despite Shaul's assurance that it would wear off to a lovely patina... it didn't wear off anywhere (not even the edge of the windflap), even after years of wear in rain and snow. The quality of the cotton lining and wool knits were very good, much better than the synthetics typically found on lower-priced A-2s. So while it wasn't really great horsehide (not that I'd owned any other jackets made of that leather for comparison yet), I thought it was a well-made, reasonably accurate, generic wartime A-2.

The reason I eventually got rid of it was that the trim-but-long sizing was never really right for my short-but-wide shape. I put on a few pounds and it became uncomfortable... and getting a jacket custom-made to my specs - where the waist actually wasn't too tight and the sleeves actually weren't too long - seemed like an idea whose time had come. But I always recommend US Authentic's goatskin model as the best buy out there for a not-bad WWII A-2 reproduction (as opposed to a US Wings/Schott/Legendary/Cockpit/etc. with loose sizing and synthetic fabrics).

I bought my A-2 from them about 15 months ago. Russet horse, and it's broken in quite nicely. Very soft and supple. For the money, it's a great value. It has served me well. I have no doubt that it will outlast me. Additionally, I will also note that the customer service I got from Authentic is extraordinary: very quick time from order to receipt of the jacket.

Judging from the Aero fitting jacket that Thurston Bros. sent me while I was purchasing my recent ANJ-4 from them, however, it is clear that all positive comments I proffer here are tempered by the caveat that it is an entry level generic A-2 jacket.

Would I buy another jacket from Authentic? Absolutely: as far as I know they are the only company that offers a USN M-444 shearling. Not on my immediate priority list... but one day, a definite option.

i take a size 38 in all my a2 jackets. i wonder is shaul a2 would fit me right ?????
