Fixing a hole...

I found a hole in the back of one of my favorite suit jackets. How it got there I have no idea, because I didn't see it when I bought it, and the seller didn't see it either. There's a chance we could have missed it though, since it is dark fabric.

It's a vintage suit so I suppose it could be a moth bite. But there is absolutely no other damage, and the hole seems too big to be a moth.

It's a small hole. I could push a pencil through it and the pencil would be a snug fit.

How do I go about fixing this (if at all)?

Hole in jacket?

Have it rewoven, plain and simple.
Anything attached from behind the hole will show a "Dent" in the material. Patching something into the hole (flush with the surface) will most likely show raw edges of fabric.
Have it rewoven. Especially if it's in a highly visible area, like the shoulder.

It is in the small of my back and is very unnoticeable.

I'm unfamiliar with the term rewoven, I can take a guess as to what it means but can I have some more info?

You might also try stitch witchery.

This is done by taking a similar piece of fabric from an unseen area on the garment and fusing it behind the hole with some kind of iron-on tape. It is a cheap alternative to expensive reweaving. It's not perfect but if the hole is unnoticeable like you said, this might be the route you want to go.
