Not really much that you can do to soften it up much..but you can dip the collar in hot tap water until very wet..then roll it up from the point of the collar. The exaggerated roll can then be better shaped after it dries. This may need to be done several times to get the desired effect..but both sides of the collar will match much better.

Or sleep in the jacket for a couple of nights. I did that to begin breaking in my GW A-2 back in the fall of 2010. When I did that, I think the collar broke-in the most.

From the Vanson website:

How do I break this thing in?
Wear it. Roll it up and use it as a pillow when you watch TV. Unroll it and roll it the other way. Work it with your hands. Wear it more....

Sleeves and back are a little long/loose for my taste, but not as to be unwearable, so as long as you're happy with it, that's a cool jacket.
As regards the RW boots, I used to be put off by the white soles too, but I've really come to like/covet them now - especially in that colour.

Yes, I added 0.5 inch to the sleeve in case it will shrink.

I love the white sole with MOC toe, like 875.

I put mine in a towel or blanket, and then I follow the above. :)

I think once the jacket settles into your build and the creases and draping form it'll be looking spot on.
That's Bill Kelso Liberty horsehide right? Which is veg tanned? Could you tell me if the leather darkens when wet or does it have a waterproof coating?
Some leathers seem to darken a lot when wet others stay much the same. I'm not sure if it's due to the veg or chrome tanning or due to aniline or pigment finish to the leather.

Probably both as the veg tanned leather is itself not resistant to water and the aniline finish means minimal coating/treatmment.

ZHZ, good fit. Good decision on selling the Eastman and getting this one as the Eastman slim cut does not look proportionate on you, the sleeves are too wide while the rest is tight.

My A-2 is semi-aniline, so it darkens when wet, but tends to dry back to normal. That said, my one's from the mid-80s, so it may have reached its deepest colour already.

I briefly had a russet BK A-2 in the first vegetable tanned leather. I was impressed with the leather and couldn't fault it whatsoever. The Liberty looks a little more conservative than the Victory, so it's probably what I'd opt for if I was to order one again.

I'd say that it looks great on you.
I would prefer a (slightly) tighter fit, but your jacket looks just fine on your frame. Love the boots too.

I'm not an A2 man as you know but this one looks pretty good from here.

Any chance you could snap a few close ups of the leather? Dependent of what pictures you look at the russet liberty appears in different shades, ranging from brown to a lighter tan

I posted some detailed photos while ago, the colour in the photo is quite close to the real colour.

yes, it is veg-tanned. And yes, the leatehr get darken when wet and get back to normal colour when dry. I think this colour changing thing is regardless of the tanning method.

After some wear of the jacket, it developed some characters, so I took some pictures of it.

And a new fit picture, seems the fit doesnt change that much
