Fit Check on Schott 141

Hi All,

Just received my first leather jacket, a new Black Schott 141 in naked cowhide. It’s a 46, figured I would post here and get some feedback on the fit. I’m not totally sold on it still, but not sure if it’s just the way these jackets are made/cut or the sizing and style. Main things that are giving me pause for thought are the sleeve length, which is really hitting me about mid thumb knuckle, the way it hangs in the shoulders/armpits, and it’s not quite as trim fitting as I expected. I do really like the quality of the leather, the matte finish on the leather, and the cafe style.

That’s how a 141 fits. They aren’t super slim, though you could tighten up the waist a bit if you wanted With the side adjusters. It will fit somewhat slimmer once the leather breaks in and drapes more.

Honestly that's a pretty good fit for a 141. It looks good.
The sleeves are a little longer than i would want them too on you, but not enough to look bad.
For a first leather jacket i think you definitely did well. My first jacket (a Schott 644) didn't fit me as well as that!

can we get this one to 6 pages? If I've said it once......sleeves are too long, but other than that its good........having said that, theres always a compromise to be made.....as others have pointed out even custom jackets don't always fit right........if it feels good, go with it.

Pretty damn nice fit!!

As others have pointed out, ESPECIALLY for a first jacket. I think you know I had to go through many many many to get a nice fit or at least, a fit that I liked. The sleeves are more what Americans tend to lean toward lengthwise and what our friends across the pond tend to think are a bit too long. This theoretical cultural fit preference was proffered by another member in a previous FIT question post, and I tend to agree that this generality seems to be prevalent though not absolute.

I would add that as Breezer touched on, sometimes even Custom made leather isn't always a spot on fit and unlike a suit that is made of cloth, its harder to tinker with tailoring tweaks to perfect the fit. That and the fact that the custom makers are often overseas with customer waiting lists etc. can make it impractical from a cost and time standpoint to send back a custom jacket a for alterations. Its not impossible--just not as easy as taking a sport coat to the local tailor.

Not that you can quantify fit per se, but this Schott 141 is off the rack and seems to be like a 90% spot on fit and it isn't even broken in yet. I think you may get an additional 5% more appealing fit once the gussets break in and drape better instead of sort of the puffiness they exhibit when new. I don't think you could do better overall without customization. A 44 would be too small and a 48 way too big. All in All, I think the fit is good. To echo Nick, stay out of the heavy rain and don't fry chicken wearing it!!! The Naked's worst enemy is grease/oil---its second worst is heavy water saturation.

Rocki - Welcome to the Fedora Lounge. I don't know what your prior experience with Cafe Racer's has been, but overall, looking at the photos of the back, it's a bit baggy back there. The Sleeve length is pretty good, just a shade long but certainly not too much, especially if you intend to ride in it.

Is this from a Schott store? If do, I would have you try on some others, I think fit wise it could be better (for a true Cafe Racer style) but as stated already, these are all just opinions, what matters is what are you comfortable in?

Thanks for all the feedback! This is my first leather jacket of any style, but I’ve had cloth jackets in a cafe style before. They were way more fitted and actually a little small, especially in the shoulders. I picked this up online, I’m up in Alaska so my options for trying things on before buying them is pretty limited, at least as far as these jackets go. I’m really having to go off measurements and hope they fit well when they show up! It is a bit roomy through my torso, I could try cinching up
The side straps and see if that helps. They’re just set to the middle grommet now

Mine was a bag at the waist so i had it tailored, it still doesn't fit amazingly well.
Thing is you are only wearing a shirt in these pictures. I think in a shirt you could probably squeeze into a 44, but beeing in alaska you might want to fit a thick jumper under it.
That's how you end up like @Monitor with the same jacket in two sizes, one smaller to wear over a shirt in summer, and one larger to wear over layers in winter.

Fit looks good. As others have said the 141 isn't really a slim or trim fittting jacket. They can be but then nothing else ever fits me right, like the sleeves are way too short. I'd be happy to have longer sleeves on a Schott personally since I ride and not a Ramone. Longer sleeves win everytine over too short for me.

Great job at your first attempt and enjoy the heck out of it. I wore crap fitting jackets for years and didnt even know it. I will say my schott CR isn't the most trim fitting jacket I own but damn is it comfortable. Its not the best leather I have for a bike either but again damn is it comfortable. I went to the bike show this weekend knowing I'd have my jacket off and on all day trying out gear. I wore the Schott because damn is it comfortable. Lol

Good to hear your reply. Being in Alaska changes up the situation a bit - just wear it! As others have indicated you will most likely have a layer or two under it, so it will be fine. Especially for your first leather, that's just great! You could probably wear this all through the summer with very little problem, given the climate up there.

Being a motorcycle jacket if you put your arms in the "reaching for the handlebars" position I think you will be fine.

It also looks in your photos that you don't have the sleeve zippers 100% closed ? That will help too.

In short , looks allright to me , and that's from Perth Western Australia !

It looks like it fits you okay to me, if not maybe a touch big. But as others have said, with break-in it'll probably drape better. It's a nice looking jacket, though, and I'm going over to the Schott L.A. store to check one out this morning, as I'm in the market for a new CR.

You cant honestly expect a motorcycle jacket not to fit like a motorcycle jacket.

I think the fits as good as youll get off the rack, a smaller size would probably be too small.
