Hi folks,
I joined recently and have been looking around regularly. I have a few decent hats, some in good shape, some needing attention. Dissatisfied with the low quality, disposable product of today, I've gradually become interested in finding items (vintage or modern) worth keeping for a long time. My brother has had similar thoughts for some time. I've gone from books, to slide rules, to hand tools, to leather goods, to shoes, to clothes and now hats, without spending a fortune. I like the general aesthetic on this site, even on issues I am not so interested in.

Here are my current hats and stories:

Cavanagh gray fedora-probably early 1960's, from "OFAS" (or is it "the bay"?) for a premium price

Champ brown fedora-OFAS second chance offer, good buy

Stetson derby-appears to be pre-WW2 since there was a 1941 strip of newspaper in the sweatband, from local small town antique shop. It looked like a costume hat at first. Good condition but sweatband needs attention.

Tanbark brand (Denver, CO) western-$1 at a garage sale. Says XXX silver beaver quality. Wrong size, so I gave it to my brother.

Several straw hats that need to be sorted out.

I will post pictures and try to learn from the collective wisdom.

Welcome to the lounge, jbconguero. It looks like you have a good start on your collection. Pictures would be welcome as well as some information on what you like and your hat size. You should look at the Classifieds threads as there are often vintage and modern hats offered for sale there. There are also auction items from johnnyphi in the Merchants threads. Just use Ebay as this is what the bartenders have requested. Read the FL FAQs and the stickies at the top of the Hats threads for basic information. Then jump right in. It's always interesting to read the old threads as long as you have the time. There is a wealth of information and shared knowledge as well as interesting discussions. Pull up a chair and have fun.

Welcome, and I envy your location (the heartland) for finding many more treasures. Farm sales, estate sales, etc. My dad was from Webber, Kansas, and many of his old photos had some beautiful hats.
