I'd leave it as it is. As you wear it and handle it every day, get it wet a few times, etc., it's going to soften up and take on character. Mess with it as much as you like, though; it's your hat and, within reason, it's pretty hard to really damage an Akubra by screwing with it.

Maybe it was beginners luck, but Im still not sold on the bash I did. I think the brim definitely needs some curving / shaping...
If your hat is anything like every one of the Akubra hats I own, the brim will develop more curl/cupping on it's own in the next two to three weeks so you might want to wait until it does before you make any extreme modifications to it. As for the crease, I like it as-is but agree with what Bob wrote in post #20--I'd tighten the pinch and deepen the dents if it were mine.

Thanks for the feedback gents. That was a completely dry bash, I've since given it a misting and deepened the existing shape/crease/pinch. I was going to experiment with a completely different bash to make it look more casual, but you guys have convinced me to leave it alone for now.

Great choice for a first hat. Keeping it on a hat rack is a perfect place to store it. As for crease, I find it funny because I feel a center dent is more formal that a C crown. Each to their own. I think you did a great job on it, especially for a first try. Now my only recomendation is to wear it. Particularly in the rain. It really helps to relax the felt and make it your own.
Wear it in good health.

Here is a picture of mine with a diamond bash.

Well my first hat was last year and was a Panama cheap replica brought at a stand in the fan zone of Argentinian rugby team Jaguares. As most said soon i found that i couldnt have just one. First brought cloth hats or synthetic materials made in china; cheaper too , until i found proper hatter and started to brought fur felt hats, made in Argentina, as i want invest in argentine products. Anyway i cant find imported hats except for Panama hats. And the exported ones are far expensive, out of budget for me.
I belive that @Bob Roberts said in another thread, that wearing hats its about have fun, and ive found that is so true. Never care how dress. But now i have fun dressing and looking what match the hat i would wear for the day being.
I do love too my first cheap hats and didnt stop to wearing by the way.

jpk_NJ, your treatment of your Squatter looks great. That is pretty much how I crease most of my hats, a diamond-with-dome to clear my head. I have a few Open Roads or their clones with the center dent and long side dents (known as the "cattleman's crease"), and I love 'em, but generally I do what you've done. Here is my Akubra Fed IV in Carbon Grey:

Not sure if this is the right place to say hello. New member from UK here.

Just bought quite a few caps and my first hat over the last couple of weeks. I am rather large in the hat size (63-64cm) so I have only recently discovered caps and hats that fit nicely.

Anyway here are a few pictures if the uploading works:

You've caught the disease!
Glad too see ya' here, Teddy! Always can use a new person with obsessive-compulsive disorder!
You will find MANY enablers here.

Over 10 yrs. at this and still have 'em coming and going, a relatively benign mid-life crisis, eh?
Welcome!

Welcome aboard, Teddy!! Sweet little selection there, sir! With those dimensions, you're in the right place! I'm a 7-3/4 -7/8, (62-63) Extra Long Oval, equally hard to find. Many, but not all of the custom hatters around here CAN accommodate your mellon.

Did you buy too many? At our size, you gotta buy 'em when you find 'em, and I believe you have made a good START on your collection. Keep them coming, my friend!! We're here for you!

Thanks for the welcome. In case you can't tell what they are, we have from the top:

1. Custom cap from Stu @ Ami Charnel in XXL
2. Stetson Hatteras wool herringbone in XXL 63cm
3. Bailey Tino in crushable wool lite-felt, black mix in XXL
4. Sterkowski cap in Harris Tweed in 63cm

Managed to get Stetson at 40% off and Bailey at 50% off too which is a bonus.
