First hat buy - help!

Hello gentlemen!
I've been a member here for a while, but never posted on "hats". The reason being that except caps and one cheap panama I never had any "real" hat". But this is going to change. I'm turning 30 next fall so I decided it's time to start dressing like a grown-up - and get a hat.
I'm looking for something versatile and not overly formal, I think I will go for a trilby (short brim). Is there anything in particular I should be looking at? The color will probably be brown. Should I get a crushable? Wide or thin ribbon? Someone told me that the trilby traditionally is unlined. Is this true?
Any advice will be welcome!

Paulo, all a matter of taste! My opinion, you go in a hat shop and let you show some hats in your size and then try it out what looks good for you!
The wool trilbys and wool outdoor hats are mostly unlined, that is the cheapest way and not the best hat! All other hats are mostly lined!
Look for a felt hat and you have a friend for many years!

Yes the hat will be felt, I forgot to mention that. I already have plenty of tweed/wool flat caps and such.
Thanks for your input, Manfred.
Oh, and by the way, are some felts better than others, "animal-wise"?
