SelfEdge selling them in USA, i tried one jacket in LA, its nice but nothing special imho, all the hype is because it develops brownish patina and overall "vintage look" very-very-very fast.

Would be interesting to get your thoughts on what does strike you as special for context purposes. I agree that the single hide, patina developing, tea core coloring is definitely part of the attraction.

I’m also the type of person that REALLY focuses on all aspects of a jacket from the stitching to the weight to the hardware. And much of what makes FC special is found in the quality and construction. But I can definitely see how someone could put one on and not feel a significant difference from another jacket.

@ksozay I'll find you a $10 versions! :D

In the mean time, why not invest in the real deal? Getting a great Perfecto isn't easy today so I'd go with FC for a perfection just as well instead of Schott, with the hide they're using nowadays - same as I'd always invest a few additional monies into an IH rather than Levi's - BUT with Lewis Leathers still around, there's just no justification to buy a knock-off.

Well, details, hide, hardware, overall craftsmanship.
Like if i see flathead jacket, freewheelers jackets- they are special because of the overall quality (craftsmanship+ hide+ hardware+ amazing details, designs, etc).
Like for example i got a real mccoy buco j-24, and it's not special (Stitching is so-so, lining is actually bad, well hide is fine, but you can get shinki hh from a lot of makers), and i got (selling sadly) a goodwear a-2 - and i think its special because of just amazing craftsmanship and attention to details. FC is good, dont get me wrong, maybe perfect as "a starter jacket" but lining is "nothing special", hardware - again nothing special, design - well, copy-paste from other brands (lewis, perfecto, etc), and still it costs something =) Hide... well yes it ages very fast. Some people like it and some not.

What would be the best place to keep an eye out for the FCL release next month? Would also love some sizing advice if it's ok to ask here.

Check the Fine Creek Instagram page for release updates or self edge in the US.

Sure, happy to try and assist.

I love the designs they're making, but the single grainy panel thing is starting to annoy me. I'm noticing it on every jacket they make now...

I don't think that appears on every jacket? This one on ebay doesn't seem to have that much variance between the panels (hard to tell I guess):

Rumor has it that Fine Creek makes a copy of the Lightning because not everyone in Japan can afford the original.

The copies getting made in Japan (including Addict leathers) actually cost more than a new bespoke Lewis jacket, Lewis have a shop in Japan as well. The only justification for buying one of the Japanese copies would be to skip the six month wait as there is no financial incentive, quite the opposite.

Lewis Leather jackets in Japan are much more expensive than here, don't remember the exact prices, but I would suspect on par with the other Japanese brands.
And in terms of materials used, a lot of buyers might prefer the copies.

Personally, I really like the Lightning pattern and I have a turquoise one. But when I put it next to a LW... I start thinking that I would love a Lightning made by LW.

I think he means Shiniki leather. That the leather is soft and heats up easily from your body heat. Over time with wear/repeated heating from wear and the normal weathering the jacket goes through - it will crease and gather in places like elbow/chest etc. which would cause the jacket to essentially shrink a bit as it forms these creases and folds. All my Leather Jackets made from Shinki Leather felt a tad smaller after some wear and molded nicely to the body...

Not sure how I feel about this exclusively seasonal collection thing and I wonder how long it can continue when you just make repros? It would make more sense to have a permanent collection plus throw in a few seasonal items like most brands seem to do.

Nonetheless these two new models look very nice to me:
