Al's without the eps;

My one is a fun jacket. The fit is 'quirky' but perfect (crossed my mind too).
The hide on mine is also quirky.

If I found one in a good tea-core would I be tempted at that price? (which is really Cal money)
(I believe this should be a shout out to @Leather Walker 's beautiful padded Cal (in my size yes I would pay this money))

Out of the Al's I have had the QC is a bit 'varied' The best being questionably JLs, the worst (they can need treating gently (again, crossed my mind as well)).

My Al's is pretty similar to the one from eBay (sold today), same heavyweight cowhide and that glossy topcoat.

I wouldn't know which Al's was made before or after. Mine has these teardrop tabs in pockets, the sold on eBay has the same pull tabs as the cuffs. But for all other things, the same.

Your jacket, Al, is a cool piece! The tan lining is wonderful, and the fit is perfect.

This jacket is soooo awesome. The cut, because it is sharp, will be easy to repair, almost invisible. The most robust way would be glue the "lips" of the cut together, and then get under the lining and glue a patch of leather on the other side. Rubber cement works well. It may hold without the back patch if in no-stress area. The insertion pin will be a bit trickier; @Leather Walker has good experience fixing those.

PS - a bit of a bad look on Ametora not mentioning the zipper (the cut they may have missed). I'd nicely ask for a few bucks back, since you like the jacket.

With this kind of damage on the zip, I don't know if I'd be able to fix it by myself.

The only and best solution I see on this is unsewing that ripped part from the jacket (add 3cm/1.18in more) in order to reconstruct the full width, first stitching teeth and tape sides to remove the gap, and then, covering all the area with a thin black fabric tape. But I'm writing this theory which I'm not aware if it may work. I see many vintage jackets with this problem, how do people get such these breaks in a zipper? Do they see that and think "ok, I'll keep zipping it up"?

Friend, that is a good option. Also, You can look in to the male pin. She if it can be re-open. If it can with out damage, you can add the additional fabric re-enforced with good adhesive and tape.

The lining of mine is a strange (quirky...) sunfaded gold sheen of the standard black heavy silk lining

Of course they did, I own two padded CHPs made by Cal. The difference between these two makers are well discussed in this thread. If you pay attention to the details, it's easy to distinguish the jackets. The same can happen with some styles of Langlitz and Kadoya, Golden Bear and Johnson Leathers, or Lesco and the early Branded Garment jackets.
