I bought a 1940's police motorcycle jacket in a similar condition for 70 GBP in a style I've only seen twice in my life & eventually, it ended up in a garbage bag. Couldn't even be bothered salvaging the hardware which was okay.
These things can get so disgusting that any idea of a restoration appears unfathomable and this one seems way beyond that.

Greg is making an exact repro of this particular model for me. It would have been nice to have an original in hands to work from.

My search for a leather , I don’t care if it gets beat up “work” jacket continues. This Kerr Leathers is in my size and cost category. I did a general search for this brand and read a few things, any other real world experience to share? Leather appears nice and weighty At least by photo standards.

Nothing on the brand to share, but I treat most of my jackets as a beat up do anything jacket

Imo leather is made to be worn and most jackets don’t need to be babied

There are certainly the wear everyday leather jackets I own and do whatever in. The motorcycle riding, out to dinner , pub crawling ones. Then there are the “I am crawling around a skid steer loader or John Deere tractor” leather work jackets. Changing fluids, tires etc. Which this one would be.

for me there is a distinction between my $1100 Schott Perfecto and a sacrafice $75 eBay find. I know the Kerr brand has been discussed a little on this forum and just want a bit more information for my own curiosity.

You can put Kerr into the search function in this forum (hope the word is not too short, lol), you'll find stuff. From what I remember Kerr is like Walter Dyer, thick leather, great bang for the buck.

Yeah those “your word is too short” messages are comical. I did the search function and found a few references yesterday to the Kerr. Seems like a good jacket that is surprisingly priced low for the thickness of leather, built in the USA pedigree. Etc. Which usually brings a higher asking price.

The Kerr is right there with the mysterious Natal/Natel and many of the Walter Dyer versions, many with an elephant hide thickness, but held down or held back from greatness by a sort of "floppy" sloppy fit. Will probably stop a small caliber round though and the hides are gonna outlive all of us in many cases.

I caught that clip on IG with your name on the pattern, I figured it was this. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with, it’s one if not my favorite jacket design

That old LeatherTogs would have been amazing for his design, then you could have kept it as memorabilia, interesting conversation piece in a framed box.

That's a Kerr I'm assuming, you got me interested, but then I see this one on the 'bay and it looks like something thinner... View attachment 480533 View attachment 480533
No what I posted is a Natal but the pattern and leather are the same on Vikings Kerr. Clearly there is a discernable difference in the jacket Viking posted and the one you posted. There is "some connection" between Kerr, Natal and Walyer Dyer I believe. I can't say what it is but they all offered the same patterns, in the same leathers, at certain points in time.
