New to TFL, although I've been enjoying reading your posts on leather jackets for a while now. Got my first leather jacket (a 60s Brooks CR) based on all the great things many of you have said about them; and sure enough, great fit and great cut! Decided I should join so I could be a part of the conversation!

Here's a good looking black Harley AMF Sportster for $245 that looks to be made of the better leather used in the pre-AMF days. I have one of their brown two-pocket cafe racers of the same era - has the AMF tag - but is made from nice leather with decent grain, not the smooth, shiny, plastic-y stuff that came after. As has been suggested somewhere on TFL, I'm guessing there was a transition period using the old hides but with the new labels. https://www.etsy.com/listing/784536042/vintage-1970s-amf-harley-davidson-cafe?ref=user_profile&frs=1

The HD Sportster here is just a bit too big for me (size 40; pit to pit is 21") otherwise I'd jump on it! Anyone out there happen to have put on a few pounds and have a 36 or 38 that is too snug?! I'm looking for one with the following measurements: pit to pit - 19-20", shoulder - 16-17", arm - 24.5-25", back length 25-27". Thanks!

Yes, a very nice jacket. Maybe @tmitchell59 can tell us if it is horsehide. The only downside for me are elastics on the sides - not a huge fan.

Could be any of the catalog labels. They all sold square pocket jackets like this. The gathered waist comes in during the mid-late 40s. I like the gathers as they make the jacket fit well. When it came out it was probably seen as more "modern"?

I have horsehide jackets and steerhide jackets that have this look. Probably horsehide. Great look regardless the material.
