I’ve been eying this jacket. Hard to tell if it’s cow or horse. Too bad it doesn’t have brass snaps.
Were Johnson known for their cross-zips?

It’s nice and in excellent condition. Cow I bet. Seller is cool, knows jackets and will deal. He is receptive to sending extra pictures of the jacket and/or pictures of the measurements.

JL is top shelf and builds great, great jackets. As I understand, they used to build cross-zip moto-police jackets for many police departments. Maybe they still do, I don’t know.

I own one of their jackets, a cross-zip (see pic). Really nice on the bike. Good taper, cuffs zip up tight, AB provides great range of motion, solid hardware, etc.

BTW, I’ve found that many older JLs taper significantly from chest to hem. I’d ask about that to be sure. Not all but enough where I always ask.

WOW! That is a helluva nice jacket!
Would the JL be a good alternative to a Vanson? Been searching for a Highwayman or C2, just nothing coming up. Don't really want to buy new. The taper shouldn't an issue....I have a slim waist and its getting slimmer. I need a 23-23.5 p2p though.
I have a Branded on the way that should fit but I have a hankering for one more.

We have similar, almost exact measurements.

If you are looking pre-owned, yeah, I would look for the first Vanson, Bates, JL, Langlitz even, that fits the style you want at a good price. New, i would go Vanson for a riding jacket. Or the Bates Highwayman. Cheers.

What size do you run in a Vanson Highwayman? Or C2?

My current E is a 44, but an older model with all Talon Zips. The leather is amazing and thick, but a softer, pliable CW.

The other Vanson I currently own:

Force 42 (comfortably snug, could do 44 but I dig the fit for on the bike of the 42. Perforated and only used to ride)

Cheyene 42

AR3 44

Chopper 43 (custom rig)

I prefer 23.5-24” chest. Can do 23”, but that’s my drop dead point.

previous Vanson- B (42), Hardcore 42 (44 would have been a tad better), Comet 44, Ike 42, Breeze (don’t recall size)

Hope this helps.

Very helpful. Might be worth it just buying a new Vanson, break it in, and then it’s mine! Damn I like that Chopper but can’t see it off the bike much.
