Looks good but I feel the sleeve measurements are a touch short compared to the others for a 42. Maybe that's just my long arms talking. Perhaps best fit for a shorter stockier person.

Right, thanks, edited my post.

I think perhaps the whole "MONARCH MADE THE 30s Hercules" may just be a flawed theory. I don't know where it came from but I feel like the evidence does not support this.

The Monarch connection was made by folks who do know and make jackets, like Dave Sheeley, John Chapman, probably others. I don't know the "evidence" they have. Dave borrowed jackets and measurements when he was building his Monarch line of jackets. There were techniques he was working to duplicate. Most of which I did not understand.

Now the whole licensing the use of the adjustable collar thing is interesting and puzzling. It is odd that they would license their invention to a competitor. Maybe there was some relationship between the companies that we cannot see from the history? Possibly familial?? The invention itself doesn't seem that special to me.

I agree. Does not seem like a lot of money to be made on such a simple idea. Not sure I get the idea of licensing it out to your competition either.

I thought I had written a thread on the Iconic Hercules, but I guess it just thought about it. I am going to do that now and we can continue this discussion in that thread.

That's a Montgomery Ward label ? MW

I had thought the same, but the other MW labels I have seen are always explicitly mentioning the full name, and I saw a very similar steerhide label on a RP, so I guessed RP.

But your point is good, and you could be right.

@tmitchell59, could this be another link between MW and RP?

The Steerhide label is a Ralphs-Pugh label without their name.

I'm thinking this jacket is owned by a member here. Dena found both labels in the same jacket when redoing the lining.

I was originally skeptical, but not now. I've suspected this relationship based on the labels and styles of the jackets.. I will do more in a new thread.

Sold by MW, but made by RP?
