Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

I just saw this, my isn't that nice! All Weather garments are typically well done as this example indicates.

Big lapels, fine horsehide, simple front, Aviator meets MC

Looks very much like a Ralphs-Pugh from the early 50s.

I would like to own this one, yes that is some fine West Coast Horsehide.

This and another for sale on eBay right now. Both too small. Horrible tease.

This Milium label is pretty common on garments through out the 50s. I've seen it on suede jackets, but don't recall it in a horsehide. I never researched it until tonight.

Coats lined with fabric metalized by the Milium process, which are being made by Hart Schaffner & Marx and others. By coating the underside of the fabric with an aluminum solution, the process makes a topcoat as warm as a winter coat, a sheet as warm as a heavy blanket.

Had never seen one before, neat design. Is this a particularly rare model? Thanks for the info.
I’ve seen a few Bronx and owned one for a while but this is the first Vanson ‘twin track’ I’ve seen. A search for Vanson twin track and Vanson double track brings up a few examples of the Double Riders model with twin track zippers.

Love those hang tags!!! I have seen more than a few Children's sized jackets of interest, but I can't bring myself to buy one. I have two grand daughters, but they are a few years from leather.

$400 is the most I'd pay, though. Around that number, though I fear nibblers will stack it higher and then back out.
Then you add shipping on top of that, VAT + Custom duties and you’re paying closer to $700-$800.

Buying from outside EU makes no sense anymore. Pure Robbery.

I just paid 90€ for my 158€ Lost World Ryders from Japan.

So yeah… taxes everywhere and if they don’t see the shipping and insurance on the Invoice you send them they add their standard pricing to the value ( (2) is a note at the bottom of the invoice that explains it) calculate VAT and import duties on it.

Doing all the work with Customs is ~20€ then handling fees ~5€ then they add VAT on it.

Pure Robbery and this was only for a low priced jacket! Imagine if I had paid full price for a Lost Worlds from NYC. I’d be better served booking a flight back and forth to visit Stu.

It took 2 weeks for the whole process but it got delivered yesterday to my family and I’m picking it up after work.

Outrageous! Are person to person parcels scrutinized? For example, I wonder if someone from the states could “send a gift” without all the fees? Of course it would require a tremendous amount of trust of the seller. But man! 90 on 158… Enough to make a deal not worth it in some circumstances.

Yep. I've got all my searches set to only Europe and so I don't even look at things listed outside of EU as it is, at this point, absolutely pointless. The added import taxes & duties are so high that we all can pretty much just automatically add 50% of the price to the total and feel lucky if it comes out less than that.

What's odd in your case is that there's supposed to be some kind of trade agreement between EU and Japan, that only makes you liable for VAT, whist the item itself should be void of duty taxes. I'm not sure how it goes, though, but I did have to pay only a standard 25% of VAT on my most recent purchase from Japan.

Those people from ADT Correos (who process all shipments coming outside of EU via USPS, EMS, Australian Post, etc.) engage in stealing. Lots of problems here in Spain caused by this company, which is a part of the official Spanish post. @willyto overpaid 30€ just because the jacket costs >150€. They've charged their managing and handling, tasks that a citizen can do on its own for free on the Tax Authority website. Edit: Most of times this company doesn't allow people to do these steps directly with the tax office, so you're forced to pay for their managing whether u like it or not.

I overpaid 77€ for a Cal (not counting the jacket price & shipping) which came from Australia about 4 years ago. And I saved money just because I did all these tasks for free online, if not... I would have overpaid ~100€.

This is literally a shame. I don't know how imports are treated in other European countries, maybe they're easier... or just with a clear and honest control by the authorities. I've recently bought a vest in the US and I asked to keep it there because I'll probably travel there soon.
