I am chuckling because I teach high school math and if you think things are bad now, wait until you see what is coming down the road. Things like taking measurements or reading a map baffle many of my high schoolers. If they cannot plug it into a calculator/computer, they are lost. Math has been dumbed down to a point most old timers would not believe.

Offtopic of course. But could you provide a link to the electronic version of your school's math textbook or equivalent? I'm terribly interested in today's level.
And further. In your school, students are now required to study at least the basics of physics?

Leather properties, patterns...it's all math/science. At its core, math is about recognizing patterns. To operate at the level of expertise of many on this forum, one has to have a great eye and appreciation for subtleties and, in that sense, many of you are math geeks, whether you like or not o_O

I am part artist, part engineer by trade. Leather jackets are the perfect intersection of art and science. A leather swatch may be enjoyable to look at and touch, but it is the math behind the leather jacket that creates the magic for most of us.

Many Americans have no clue what "3 mm" looks like or the concept of a "drop" and its impact on a jacket. Many of you likely take your knowledge for granted, but you are friggin' geniuses compared to the average American.

I firmly believe that kids' reliance on computers is dumbing them down, ie many high school kids cannot quickly multiply 4X7 in their head. I have witnessed this dumbing down over the past 25 years, teaching and managing engineers both pre and post the days computers went mainstream.

The Sears catalog of 50 ago years forced an intense study of photos to recognize subtle differences in styles/patterns. Our eyes became trained to look for subtleties and connect the dots. It is this skill that is declining in many young people. Young people today are like border collies...if it ain't moving, ie TikTok videos, it ain't fun.

When I went to high school, 80 hours of classroom was budgeted for Algebra 1. Today, we budget 270 hours to cover that same material. And many kids still cannot pass, despite the snail's pace. Chemistry and physics are electives.

Well, this is, of course, an overestimation of ability to put it mildly :) But I understand the direction of your thought.
So what is the name of the last class mathematics textbook, or at least who is the author or publisher?

Textbooks are out of favor and have been for years. Teachers spend their lives at copy machines creating materials for each day and have to maintain their own websites as well. Sound f'ed up..it is.

So glad you picked this one up. What do you think, late '60s / early '70s? Probably too big for me, too–one of the reasons I didn't go for it. Very Lee Rider-like, but unique with those buttons, which were, ironically, another reason I didn't go for it—not sure I could make it work. I saw that ton312 had the idea of switching them out for rivets, which is the sort of thing that would certainly make it more wearable for me, but I wonder how much of its magic it loses then?

Can't wait to see how it works out for you.

That's an awesome jacket. What a color scheme, especially with the lining. It's another in a long line of jackets that look amazing to me but I can't imagine how to wear without looking silly. I take it hard, like some kind of a personal failing. Anyway, lovely jacket.
