Thanks Terry! Seriously you need to make a webpage or make a Tanaka inspired book with your knowledge of the Deerskin makers and the Sears and all its offshoots and relabeled makers etc... you provide such great insight and info.

Just to give an example I discovered recently of that Thurlow exchange ("send us your deer and we'll make it into a jacket!"), here is a jacket I found on facebook marketplace recently. I don't really like the look or the price, but it is an interesting process nonetheless.

"In the 1940’s a Tulsa man killed a deer and sent the hide to Mid Western Sport Togs and they made him this spectacular deerskin coat."

^^ Ha, Literally! :) Hope you go for it...
Haha no I won’t be getting this one. I just had a golden opportunity for a dad joke I couldn’t pass up. I just made a trade with someone and have two incoming jackets off that, and just accidentally bought another. I wrote about it in the “how many....jackets” thread. I was eyeing a Thurlow deerskin. I couldn’t make up my mind. It wasn’t 100% my style and the measurements will be close. I was chatting with @Monitor about it. I was like well @tmitchell59 has had quite a few deerskins and Thurlows and he loves them. Monitor said do it. I still wasn’t sold. Then the seller offered 40 dollars off. Now that isn’t a lot if we’re talking about an 800 dollar jacket. But it was listed at 220 so it was down to 180. So I thought to be fair I was sending a lowball offer and sent 150. It was more to test to see if the seller would play ball and how serious they were. Instead I sent the offer, closed the eBay app on my phone was about to close my phone and then got a notification that they had already accepted my offer. Came to 160 all in. I said shit I guess I’m getting a Thurlow deerskin! The way I see it if it doesn’t fit or I don’t love it I’ll list here or eBay for 150 and won’t feel bad about moving it on at all. But with 3 incoming jackets and one outgoing-unless something really blows me away I won’t be adding any until I have a chance to receive the new ones and figure out if I’m keeping them all or listing them. I just couldn’t help myself with the dad joke.

I would like to see your deerskin when you get it. One reason I like these older deerskins...I see a number of them that can be had for under $200. Somebody on a limited budget could build a small collection of these for $1000.

This one looked interesting to me mostly because it’s listed as a size 37. No tags to verify that but odd numbered sizes in many clothing types are uncommon but I’d probably fit best into a true 45. Anyone know of manufacturers which regularly produced odd sizes?

I think the seller made up this size based on his 18.5” chest measurement. With 17” shoulders, I’d put it closer to a 34-36.

I agree that the seller likely made it up. But, are there any known makers who use odd number sizes? I come across odd number size suit jackets occasionally. Given how many folks here are looking for specific fits, maybe there are some out there? Or it falls to the custom shops?

I doubt that shops carry tags for the odd sizes. Custom jackets seem to end up with the next closest size tag or none at all.

Anyone have Schott CXL jacket in Burgundy? Looking for input on quality, as well as comparison to horsehide if you have knowledge. Thanks!
