Finding a hat for a dark navy suit

New member, first post!

So my work uniform is a very dark, almost black, navy three piece suit and I'm at a loss to think of what color hat will match it.

I don't think black will work, it'll just make it obvious that the suit isn't black at first glance (it really is dark though). Brown or grey maybe...idk. Wore a dark grey donegal flat cap through the winter and that looked fine

Looking for more classic styles, fedora, trilby, etc.

A 3 piece suit that dark is a severe & formal look and a navy fedora would serve to accentuate that. If you wanted to soften the look a bit give some thought to a mid grey. In the winter what colour overcoat do you wear? The hat and the overcoat are the two items that will be seen together the most. When indoors you take off the hat and the overcoat.

In the winter I keep use a black knee length overcoat and that flat cap. And I'm in the South, I'd hardly say I wear that the most.

Charcoal? That's about it y'all think?

Been doing some research and I'm thinking an Akuba Stylemaster in charcoal will fit. Just hope the sizing is similar to my usual stetsons

I really like my charcoal Stylemaster. It should go nicely with a blue suit. It has seemed to me that some of the modern stetsons run a bit loose (my 59 Akubras are just a tiny hair looser than my 58 stetsons). All in all I like my stylemasters (One in Acorn Fawn and one in Charcoal) just as much as my 70s Stratoliner. Stylemaster is a bit firmer and maybe feels a tad bit more formal than the softer Stratoliner (brim is less apt to wobble if I screw it on my head in the wind)

Looks great, maybe I wasn't clear earlier...I'm not new to hats. I actually have several western ones so I know I'm a firm 7 1/2 in Stetson/Resistol. It's just, you know, metric :)

I'll throw my vote in along with the guys who chose gray to go with a navy blue suit.

Though not navy blue, I'm wearing a gray Stagecoach Conversion with a blue sport coat and black pants. It does, at least, give a decent idea of how a gray hat would pair with navy blue.
Same picture as my avatar.

The username finally clicked for me. You may appreciate this one:

Maybe not a long hair per se, but a lighter color like Silverbelly could work.
Heh, glad someone got it!

I forgot about that episode, my suit is much darker then that but I was thinking a lighter hat because I wear a white shirt.
