Pliable..or flexible..?? Make sure you follow the right steps...First go for 50% 0ff...Then rip out the zipper..oil her down..brush until buttery...then open another beer.
You're welcome

I got her here in the Classifieds from Worf. Sent me a brush, but it was badger. I use it to shave, but she's not every shiny...

Yes, because RiRi's are soooo strong and indestructible.

If you use a full symmetrical solid brass continuous chain zipper and you will solve the problem, RiRi YKK and Talon make them, the one in the pic is a not one.

Here is a double separation, continuous chain, full symmetrical, solid brass installed in a heavy steerhide long half belt, it works very well.

Awww! Spoilsort.

To be fair I had a lot of RiRi zips in the '80s & '90s when I used a lot of Rogan clothing and I never had one fail on me. I stopped wearing Rohan when Paul Howcroft died and the company was sold. They started using YKK and cheapened a lot of the designs so I stopped buying them. Doesn't guarantee the quality of the zips now though.

IIRC back in those days, Rohan was using plastic RiRi zips. I never had one fail on me. YKK made my patio doors....should I see if I can get some Talon replacements?

To the person asking about where I got yak hair brushs, in USA : http://www.nessentials.com/shoe-brushes/shoe-shining-brush-luxury-yak-light/ In the euro zone manufactum carries and distributes them. http://www.manufactum.com/home.html

The buffing of the horsehide on an Eastman ANJ4 sleeves, front, and around the bottom made the leather very flexible and soft. This process softened the cuff areas making them contour and adapt to the hands' movements much easier. All the horsehide is now as soft as the wind flap. This makes the sleeves flex and the bottom horsehide trim move, contour, and flex mush easier.

The double layered horsehide side pocket flaps are so pliable you can open and close the button pocket flaps, with one hand, while wearing the jacket.

After using these methods to soften/break-in the leather one can wear a new or like new jacket while driving without it pushing up on your torso. I know, I just did it with the extra Heavy duty horsehide Aero Thunderbay.

I got both my jackets back from Aero repair, the Thunderbay and the ANJ3 with the split seam. Total cost was $200US including shipping both ways. Shipping for 1 jacket each way is normally $65 so I figure that charge was more than fair.

Both came back with Talon full symmetrical solid brass zippers, Thunderbay waist and lining repaired, Anj3 had the lower panel seam repaired after splitting.

Aero had never seen they way i "treat " jackets for shipping and just about had a heart attack when they got there. I explained how I treat the leather and use powder to prevent the jackets leather from any rubbing damage during transit. They just did the repairs and returned them to me.

Both arrived with only one small area damaged, easily repaired and already done, so the tratment worked very well. It took about 5 weeks total to get everything done and returned. I am wearing the ANJ3 in pics and when I buffed the Thunder bay. It is much more flexible and comfortable after I "buffed" it also.

I immediately started buffing the Thunderbays' horsehide and that process works 100%. It took about 1 hour buffing to get the leather in the sleeves to become like very well broken HH, I am doing it to the entire jacket..

This the easiest process to making a new Aero or any heavy HH jacket much more comfortable.

Here are the formerly very stiff Aero Thunderbay sleeves rolling on themselves and hanging by their own weight

All this done just by brushing the leather with a yak hair German made Redecker shoe brush and no where else is this process described and shown, that I could find anywhere...

There, I thought you had two, you lucky man!! I think you might have been confused and had your brown size 50 repaired and not your black one with the reddish collar.

If you took some fit pics we could render our opinion with regards to which one fits you better .

+1 - can't wait for the fit pics. I thought it was @Ribdoner who asked about the Yak brushes. Glad he had that info handy.

I used a yak hairbrush for years. Maybe that's why I'm now bald and shiny on the top of my head. :eeek:

The best brushes to use to bring out the finish on shell cordovan horsehide or finished horsehide are made from the hair of 1) yak, 2) goat, or 3) short hair ponies. I do not use shoe brushes on my hair. :D

Worf will your Thunderbay sleeves roll like this?

Will the front fold over on itself very easily?

Post pics of your Thunderbay and how you are breaking in your jacket, mine is little over 3-4 months old and very comfortable to wear now. When sitting with it on it just folds like a nice soft cotton shirt, instead of pushing up into the chin and over the back of your neck

Worf, yes, please post updated pics of your non-broken in jacket so Petey can mock your total inability to break in a jacket using the latest in yak-hair technology. And no cheating, we're monitoring your activity for any yak related purchases.

$50 says that website selling yak brushes belongs to you-know-who.
I'd spend my money on the Clapper™ and just wear the jackets myself...

Maybe if I'd used a $5 horsehair brush instead of a yak I wouldn't be in this sad condition with excessive hair loss now. :D

I'm now taking donations for membership in PETY (People for Ethical Treatment of Yaks). lol
