This Biltmore came with a leather band

Here's the ribbon I made:

Color and lighting is terrible but here it is on:

I'm not crazy about the bash, seems a bit boxy. Any experienced suggestions on how to adjust the bash to "streamline" it a little?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
That is some REALLY GREAT work !!! You got a great match to the brim binding and brought that hat up SEVERAL notches from what it was !! As for the crease, all I would do is bring the front pinch a bit closer together. Otherwise it ALL works :) You did A LOT BETTER than I could do :)

You can try a simple center crease rather than what you have now. You could also try pushing the side dents in and further back towards the ear. I think that either (or both) of these strategies should produce a "streamlining" effect.

Thanks, I got lucky finding the ribbon black/brown ribbon, thanks to a fellow lounger. Todd's Costumes sells it online, one color, 1 1/2" only, 100% Rayon. It's evidently the color used on accurate Indy Jones repros and it matches the edging on mine really close. It was easy to work with, I got the swirl down with a few passes of the steam iron.

Thanks for the reply and give my regards to DFW. Born in NE TX, lived in both Dallas and FW, and Weatherford for years, now exiled to Alabama. Still get back occasionally. The things we miss most are BBQ and Mexican food, the things we miss least are summer and CHIGGERS!

Terrific job on the ribbon. Keep up the good work, though I'll warn you it can be habit forming. Soon you'll find yourself replacing ribbons on hats you haven't even worn yet.
Stream-lining?
Have you thought of reblocking the crown from the "shield" shape into a straight front to back crease? That would "narrow" the crown, if you can do it without leaving the earlier crease.
You might try it "dry" and see how well the felt would mold.
Just a thought ...

Sam
