Filson Leather Cruiser - Who will be the first?

Just got my monthly Filson catalog and saw this new Cruiser being offered:

Initial Impressions based off photos and specs in catalog and online:

• Good representation of the Cruiser jacket all around
• For the Price I would have expected a wool lining (and its Filson's flagship material)
• Would have been nice if the leather itself were called out more, where sourced, etc.
• Price seems about $500 too much, IMHO
• Is a limited edition, so may have a little bit of collect-ability down the road

I won't be buying one, first due to the price, second due to not being a fan overall of button-up leather jackets. However I thought this was interesting enough to start a thread on it. If someone does really like it and buys one, I hope you will do a review of it.

Also being spoiled as many of us on here are, it's hard to fathom ordering a jacket, especially at the asking price, based solely off of the S-M-L-XL sizing. I would prefer to be able to specify a few more details.

I'm with Bobj. Tin cloth/wool suits the style better. Looks odd to me in "US leather".
I agree Randy, the price seems way high given the obscurity of materials used and the lack of effective sizing. If you're somewhere in between the S,M,L,XL size range you $1800 poorer on a jacket that doesn't fit right.
I love Filson, really love their catalogs. This one is a miss by my eye.

Although I’m a Filson Fanboy, I think I’ll pass on this one, probably at any price. Do love my 24 oz Mackinaw wool Cruiser though.

Interestingly I "snagged" a new Filson wool cruiser last evening new with tags in size 44L on the 'bay. I've been thinking about one for quite a while and needed a warmer winter coat. Wanted a Long while I could still get one.

I was just at Filson in Seattle, and it's an amazing place. Watching people making things and the quality is still drool worthy.
That said, no on this jacket for both looks and price.
There wasn't much there I didn't want to buy, but this one is an easy pass.

Agreed. Love filson gear, my mackinaw gets plenty of wear and I carry filson luggage everyday. But this jacket is not good.

I agree with everything said here. If I was looking to spend that kind of money I would reach out to Himel Brothers and get something made to order.

With cotton flannel lining, it can't be that warm. And at that price it ought to be very warm.

I'm afraid not. The folks at Filson probably saw what Orvis charges for their leather jackets and figured that's what the market will bear.

If you've ever shopped in their store, you'd know that you should either come fully prepared to not buy anything, or have your Gold AMEX handy. It's not for a faint of heart, but a lot of the gear is made here, and I support that as I can.
Same with Woolrich back in PA. But I almost always buy off-season and save some money. The stuff does outlast typical cheaper items, so it's more of an investment - I tell myself that every time I spend more than a normal human does for things.

I've got so much Filson stuff I could be a poster boy: hats, gloves, boots and shoes, sweaters, shirts (only the U.S.A. ones) jackets, coats, liners, chaps, hunting gear, rifle cases, and even three or four belts. I just think they took a "swing and a miss" on this jacket and that my money would be better spent on some of their other obscenely priced items.

Well said IXL. As someone who owns a handful of thousand dollar leather jackets I can't claim that I buy clothes with anything approaching frugality, let alone common sense. I really like the wool Mackinaws, vests, and hats that I have bought from Filson and I'm sure I will continue to buy more of those items in the future. At this point the $695 wool packer coat is far more tempting than their leather jacket.

Always seems quite hit and miss(mostly miss) when an established brand takes one of their 'classic' models and produces a leather version of it. But I guess there is a limited market for such things.

Maybe it looks a little better in person too as the product photos aren't really selling it as a £1800(!) jacket I don't feel.
