figuring out who wore your peacoat

I am having a hard time figuring out how to find who wore my peacoat. I have a tag that says J.P walker as the name and the rate being CO 872. I know the peacoat is before 1947, I just don't know where to find the right database.

I was wondering if you could tell me what the rate part means on the old naval clothing factory tags on the vintage peacoats.

Rate would be his job/specialty. Other services call it an MOS. I would say that CO 872 is probably his boot camp company number. In other words the group he trained with at basic training.
