I thought the first partial pictures were quite cool. I don't like the finished jacket. It looks too much like a fashion jacket.
Not to mention the long waiting times ;-)

What exactly makes it look like a fashion jacket in your opinion? I think the jacket looks pretty much like one of Greg's creations. Classic features, but slim and tailored to fit the body.

As beautiful as I usually find FL jackets (even if they are a tad too perfect for my taste), this one is not my cup of tea.

I think I have to agree with that.

First reaction was, "Cool, a shearling that doesn´t look too military for once." Seeing the jacket now, it´s somehow neither fish nor flesh to my eyes.

As @MrProper says, I can´t really pin it down, but somwehow it´s just not for me (not that I needed another shearling).

Thanks for the explanation. I think I just have a hard time with the term Fashion Jacket, since it is mostly used negatively, at least in this forum. But maybe my impression is wrong.

Anyway I do agree regarding that kinda camo pattern which I personally don't like at all. I disagree about the pockets and the length. But that is, as always, a matter of taste.

Sometimes here on TFL the term 'fashion jacket' is used to indicate that a jacket is more about style than about quality. In that sense I wouldn't categorize this as a fashion jacket because this is obviously a high quality piece.

In this case it's a matter of functionality over originality. They chose to add handwarmer pockets to make the jacket more practical (the original B3 isn't all that practical with its single patch pocket). Most fashion brands who offer sheerling flight jackets also add handwarmer pockets, therefore one could argue this FL Connecticut is a fashion jacket.

Personally I prefer the original (impractical) design like Thedi's contemporary interpretation below. Or the way Shangri-la made the jacket more practical by adding one zipped pocket, staying closer to the original esthetics. Anyway, different strokes for different folks.

Without question. I wouldn't doubt it in the least. My point is more of an optical nature. Maybe at first glance it's too similar to the many jackets on Pinterest.
But no matter, there will be enough people who like the jacket as it is. I am well equipped with my two Shearlings anyway.

btw. the Thedi is really cool.

Maybe because it looks more civilian. At least that was my motivation when I designed my jacket.
However, in the meantime I have to say that it is much more comfortable with fur on the cuffs than without ;-)

Maybe they intentionally wanted to look like a B-3 / AN-J-4 hybrid? Was it raining when they made the photo's or the "camo" is intentional?

Maybe it looks normal when he zips it all the way up but one collar looked normal and the other super floppy.

I just checked the IG pics once more but I'm not seeing any floppiness. Could you share a pic of what you think looks floppy?

I've been looking at used sheepskin jackets. They tend to wear bald at the cuff and bottom hem, like this:

So if I did go through with buying these used ones I'd put on a trim to cover up the bald spots. For this reason I always prefer the navy shearling jackets that comes with a double trim in high wearing spots.

I am not a fan of hand warmer pockets on shearling jackets, but they are not deal breaker. I'd much prefer patch pockets for storage. Again just like the navy jackets.

Price is reasonable £850 is about USD 1100. Less than the big brands like Schott and Cockpit. I thought the pricing structure is an over thought gimmick. The Japanese just raises the prices each pre-order if and when they feel like it.

@FL2021 I don't think Greg is big enough to have a VAT number or maybe he doesn't want to apply for one. No different than Simmonsbilt. Only Aero has gone through with the VAT number and now we benefit quite a bit, 20% less.

Redskin is less conservative for a first shearling intro. Bald move.

I don't understand the use of American tanned leather when there are lots of British tanned leather. I'd prefer Barker saddle leather over the Wicket Craig stuff, its just monsterous the Barker saddle leather. Wicket Craig saddle leather is more Filson thinner stuff.

I'd also use CXL as trimming with its exposed teacore edges but that's just because my unhealthy relationship with CXL.

Very tempted. Wish there was a size chart just like the Japanese jackets showing all the dims.

Something like that. Murawski is an electrition and outdoor enthusiast, so he writes on ‘rugged’ brands from the perspective of someone who uses the stuff, as opposed to a fashion perspective. He does collabs with companies to develop special limited runs of things that aren’t part of the regular collection (yet–they usually become so, if the special run is successful).

Wait a minute. I’m also a licensed electrician and I write about ”rugged” brands here on the lounge. How come nobody is knocking on my door to do interesting collaborations and special editions???
