It's almost unbelievable how good this jacket really is. Original 30s hardware. The leather is the nicest I've handled: subtle grain, awesome creasing and great color depth. Fit and shape are PERFECT. Finish is extraordinary. But above all I love the bold design with those huge curved lapels and the d pocket that functions as a handwarmer pocket. What a masterpiece.

Honestly, I like this no less than the Peter's repro. This is built on his Manhattan block, right?

I really dislike beltless cross-zips when they're more motorcycle jacket in their aesthetic, but with an aviator look it's beautiful. Those are the buttons that you sourced and dyed yourself, right?

I’d placed my initial order for it but it was discontinued in the mean time. Glad to see navy around now but I think my decision will be between the browns.

You were so excited for the Navy blue. What changed your mind?
Practically for every day wear?

I really like the navy also but can’t commit to it with no collection, if I already had a couple blacks, and few shades of brown then a Navy with maroon stitching would be on the list. Until then I’ll admire at a far.

I still think the navy blue is great. It just comes down to what kind of jacket I want to get.

I would imagine the navy blue essentially works as a 'blacker than black' jacket except in sunlight; so I would choose it for a jacket in it that I like in black. (Like– "black plus" or something.) I have several black motorcycle cross-zips at this point so they're starting to feel redundant.

But aviator type jackets just look so much better in brown than black, IMO. They end up having an effect like a tweed jacket or something, warm-toned but rugged.

I nearly bought it today and then right before paying I had the realization that willing it so isn’t going to make it fit, so reluctantly I had to step back.

I don't have much to show yet, sadly, but Sam sent me last week the design for the top part of the back design and I love it. I ended up going with the brown Italian cowhide and for the lining, I've chosen the Vietnam tigerstripe camo pattern, I cant wait to see the final piece!

I was planning on getting my Idaho in the brown pony, but like others have noted, it is now discontinued.

I have settled on brown for this jacket. Sam did offer a brown pigment shinki. Does anyone have experience with that? How can I expect pigment shinki to age?

That is some crazy rapid graining on the sleeves! Reminds me of the Californian I sent your way. Really a beautiful hide....in a years time it may pass as an original vintage piece at that rate.

I don't think it's a standard offering but they can source it. The reason I asked for it was that I found a photo online of a Field jacket with that particular lining so I sent it to Sam, she said she had to check it first, and then she got back and said they can do it but with an extra cost.

I gotta admit I have a soft spot for this particular lining, even though I'm not a camo guy at all, but I visualized it paired with the brow dark shade of the Italian cowhide and just couldn't resist!

There was some talk about the pigment pony a while ago and I’m inclined to go with his opinion given the number of jackets that have passed his hands. Just expect a great deal of aging if scratched. So it depends on what you like.

I have the same sample of the pigment horse that Greg sent me and to me and to me the problem is not really the scratches per se, which I always like on a jacket, but the hard they are due to the strong yellow contrast. And the pigment is strong, it doesn't scratch easily and I guess it doesn't fade easily either (sanded it at different levels to check that out) so most likely it will look "new" for a long time, even broken in, and with minimum fading for years, but if there is a scratch eventually it will be very noticeable. The other thing I'm not a fan of is the general finishing, to me, it looks a bit flat and plasticky, I don't see depth in that shade. But that might be just my sample.

Which leather did you ultimately choose?
I am not liking the pigment brown. I will either go with the brown cowhide, black pony, or just hold off on the jacket for now.

For my jacket, Greg made the pocket points a little less pointy, which I think works well with the overall 50s styling of the jacket. It's a unique bit of flair and I love the double stitching.
