After cancelling my Iron Heart Type III denim order today (sleeves are too long and risk is too high for returning it) I had a long talk to Greg today. He's currently working on changing the patterns of the jacket for addressing the chest issues as most of you know from Marc and others. Moreover he's working on getting support for e.g. mock-up jackets, etc. (not yet decided if the person he has in mind has enough time) which would possibly shorten the waiting times - not yet decided but he hopes to get her OK :) Moreover he offered me to trade-in my "heart-shaped" D-pocket for 100 GBP as it fits him perfectly and in return he would make me a new one - waiting time is 10 months. It's really generous of him and I think I'll do it. During our phone call I finally decided to order another jacket - not sure which pattern yet but I can make a decision in about 8 months. Probably the Mulholland clone but who knows :)

Greg is really a great guy, hard not to like the man. The fact that he constantly tries to improve his quality of work and take customers feedback to heart and not be a snob about it says a lot about him as a person.

So you will get 2 new FL jackets by next year! Congrats man and thank you for the updates. I'm sure he will be busy with setting up his new shop, so that will take time off from making jackets and increase wait times so hopefully he gets extra help

The pony looks great.

The full aniline (middle) shows a lot of red undertones.

Do you think the pony shine with dull with time? I really like the color and depth of the leather but it's a little too "shiny" for my taste. I prefer aniline leathers and hoping Greg gets access to more than the current black aniline when it comes time for mine to be made.

Is the middle one with the red undertones your FL jacket?

I had a wtf moment with the black aniline jacket the other week, the inside of the collar turned purple. I'm guessing the sunscreen I used had a reaction with my sweat and the dye on the jacket, should have took a photo

I think it will but I don't have a swatch on hand so I can't tell. @Brandrea33 has a swatch of the black pony so I suggested to fold it once and put it in the back pocket of his jeans and then wear it a couple of days. I think it will tone down.

Yep
I got my swatches and the pony definitely has a high shine, especially when in the sun. That's a good idea on throwing it in your pocket. I'll give it a try. I really like how yours turned out. Leather looks fantastic. Hoping he gets some different shades of brown in aniline. Thanks Marc.

Did it go back to normal with a wipe down?

I thought everyone might be interested to see how some of Greg’s Shinki compares to Himel Bros.

The large piece sample is labeled Shinki full aniline. The small piece is labeled Shinki pony. The first shot is indoor and the second is outdoor lighting.

Its tough to capture with my phone camera, but in real life the pony Shinki is virtually the same as Himels oil tanned Shinki.

Thanks! Would love to see more pics in another thread if you haven't already posted them!

Here are a few from when I met Dave to pick it up:)

I still think it's a great looking jacket.

Thank you Marc ... we are getting used to each other:rolleyes:

I learned from Carlos that it’s pretty tough to find a jacket that fits neat but still allows for layering. I believe in his words “that’s why we have more than one jacket”.:)

Excited to all these new FL builds, including mine.

I’m interested in the black shinki (1.1-1.3 mm) leather that Greg offers.

How does this compare to say the shinki used for J24 RMC? Are they the same in terms of finish and thickness?

Is 1.1-1.3 mm considered thick leather? I have no reference if this is considered thin or thick :)

Please forgive my question if this has been discussed in the past.

I wonder how many of the people who first discover him via YouTube or Instagram do a Google search before placing an order? If they did, they would land here on the many detailed reviews pretty quickly. I think TFL probably contributes to more than the 20% of orders that come directly from active members here.

Funny aside: I was also raving about Greg’s work on another menswear forum that I’ve been active on for ten years. Mostly not a big leather jacket place so not a lot of other folks showing interest in my latest obsession. But when I mentioned Greg’s current dilemma - wait lists expanding while trying to remain a one person highest quality maker, I just ran down some possibilities (raise prices, hire cutters and admins, cap orders after 12months, etc). Some wit in the group suggested he stop making jackets, continue to take orders and invest the money in a Seoul wine bar. Lol.
I almost ordered a TOJ jacket many times while I was a student. Glad I never did!
