The oil tanned looked spectacular judging by the photo. Beautiful pull up. Great color dept.

Got it! He did mention that he will only order a small batch of that oil tanned shinki to see how uniform the hide is. I'm sure yours will turn out even better than your perfect jacket! I hope he offers it to everyone later on as I want to have a dark brown oil tanned shinki buttoned up Cossack jacket

It's amazing how much tiny details make up. My FL got really wet for the first time last week and I mean that the tension over my chest has improved a little ... at least on the left side ;-)
I also took the opportunity to flatten the collar a little.
For my taste a difference like day and night even when others will say "what difference?" lol

I get what you mean! I was caught in the rain a month or so ago and my jacket darkened after. The rolls/creases got much more interesting too. I wish mine had a real collar like yours!

I think getting the leather into some rain helps as well. Every Shinki jacket that I have gotten wet has come out looking better for it, especially in terms of the rolls/creases. I would assume this is true with other leathers as well, especially other vegetable tanned horsehide and cowhide leathers.

Have you gotten your Sunset wet yet? Man the deerskin really shows character.

AGreed, that happened to both of my veg tanned jackets (the full aniline brown shinki FL and German HH from JL). I hope I get caught in the rain with my Tobacco Badalassi as I know/feel that one will also behave the same way

Only a very light sprinkling. I feel like based on how light the leather is I would want to either get it soaked or keep it dry. How wet did yours get and how did it react overall?

When worn open, the jacket actually looks good. Especially from the front.
In fact, it is 2 cm too short and there is tension over the chest because of the rotation of the sleeves. Fortunately only if the jacket is worn zipped up. Now it's just my "I only wear it open with a t-shirt jacket"

Personally, it would be very annoying to be able to only wear a Jacket open. It would be the same as wearing a Jeans/Trouser with an open Zipper LOL!

Definitely ... it would be my only jacket.
But maybe I should try it in combination with the open pants. Consistent concept and so ... lol

I have gotten wet from rain while riding my bike and also walking around and it doesn’t stain the leather. It gets wet absorbing everything, dries quick and then the grain shows up more.

I got caught in the rain with my Darius too and it just shows more grain and creases.

That's good to know. Sounds like I need to get my jacket into some rain ASAP. Now if only it would actually rain here...

Spray bottles filled with water work...or the bathroom shower can simulate rain pretty well.

If using spray bottles, they should be filled with demineralized water. Tap water contains minerals which could damage the leather or leave stains. I would therefore not recommend the bathroom shower.

On the other hand, people machine wash their jackets using tap water.

@Carlos840 you use spray bottles right? Do you use tap water.

Never had any damage whatsoever using tap water on a leather jacket. Have been spraying and shaping them this way for years.
You could get real touchy and declare that rain water contains impurities and contaminates so therefore you shouldn't wear them in the rain.
