Fellas living with froufrou?

Just wondering how the men folk really feel about pink and/or froufrou decorating throughout the home?

I want to paint our bedroom a dark pink. I have a lot of girly stuff everywhere throughout most of our home, (which celebrates it's centeniel this year)... however the living room is quite manly with a brownish green on the walls and his weapons hanging up and mission style furniture.

Here's my inspiration pic and I want to use the Colony Rose. I also want to mix glitter in with the paint.

Would this make you guys really uncomfortable, or do you not care? My husband says whatever I want.. and well, I figure he wants me to be really happy in the bedroom, lol!

I think if pink or froufrou were overdone, it would be uncomfortable for anyone. Too much of one color can be a bad idea. If you were to balance those two colors with other colors throughout the room, there wouldn't be a problem.

That's not so bad,...when you said pink I thought you meantpink,...that's more subdued so as long as you accessorize tastefully,...
Too much frilly girly stuff would probably get on any guy's nerves after a while though. Especially if the color is too loud or weird.

I think a nice soft shade of pink with moderate (and I do mean moderate) froufrouish decor wouldn't be so bad. I'm thinking of something like the Simpsons' house. However deep pink walls, one too many knick-knacks and frilly hootenannies all over the place would drive anyone insane.

Thanks guys! I know sometimes he tells me he likes something because "I" do.. but I do want him to be comfortable in there!
And there will be other colors. One of my "themes" has a lot of black in it. I have many bedding ensembles that I switch throughout the year.... because I have a bedding fetish.. and a chair fetish.. and...........(I'm a packrat, ok!)

HD, it's gold glitter. I've used it in the living room too but it's quite hard to photograph!

Those sconces came from my husband's grandma's house, we're so happy to have them!

If she's so close I'm letting her move into my house, it's her room, so she makes the rules--I'm just her guest when in there, and if it's a problem I can sleep in the small-arms locker or computer lab.

But that's just me...

I believe froufrou is French for a fancy kind of soup. And, right behind "pho" as one of the more upper crust soups of the 21st Century.

Seriously, I believe froufrou is slang for "fancy" or overly girlie.

Nikki -- I'm not sure that works for me. That's a bit too pink, but it might work since you have an older home. I don't know, I guess I'm trying to be an "undecided voter" and walk the middle on this one. If it were me, I'd sneak in there at night and paint it a nice shade of tan and put some swords on the wall.

Pink and glitter? Too froufrou for me. My wife went through the "shabby chic" period for a while. I am glad to say we both survived the ordeal..

If your husband is o.k. with it, that is all that matters.

Our bedroom is a very similar color to the one you picked out. we have all antique furniture in there and it looks very nice. Now at all frou frou. I'm sure with the addition of certain accessories it could be made to be so, but the color certainly doesn't make it so.

Not much of a fan of fraufrou or pink or girlie stuff. I have a modern taste. My furniture sleek with a lot of glass, brushed stainless steal, and black and white. I am a minimalist. If I even thought about trying to have pink or ruffles in the house, my husband would faint. And then he would protest strongly until I came to my senses lol

Looks nice to me. At least it doesn't have that little girl baby pink thing going on. It's a "grown up" pink, with lots of muted shades mixed in. If the guy is cool with it, what the heck. Real men don't feel threatened by frou frou.

I have to say I'm torn here... I'm not big on pink in my own room..but I can't say I don't have a girlie sensibility because I've met very few florals I don't like. Primrose yellow isn't really a masculine hue.

I say if you like it and he doesn't mind it, go for it. I'm not a pink person but it does impart a soft classic look, and its much more personal that...taupe, or something.

As far as my room goes, the only males who spend any time in there are mostly a dog and a cat, and they're color-blind.

Everyone's got their own tastes, but as for my views on something along those lines, I think it wouldn't bother me at first, but it would start to get to me after a while. The actual furniture/decor style in that pic is fine with me, but those colors would start to get on my nerves if I had to repeatedly spend time in that room. Then again, that's just one room. I could compromise and deal with it I guess. Throughout the house, I don't think I'd be able to handle it.

Either your hubby doesn't share my opinion on variations of the color pink being on the walls, or you being happy with how the bedroom looks is more important to him than how he might like it to look. Either way, I'd say it sounds like a good situation for you to enjoy yourself with decorating the room. While not a fan of that color scheme, I always enjoy seeing the great things people come up with in decorating their houses/apts, etc. I look forward to seeing your finished result.

IIRC, primrose yellow and black was the color scheme of Lord Peter Wimsey's library. Complete with the furnishings, it was a very comfortable, masculine room.
