New 8188 Red Wing Muleskinner Peco. Appears to be discontinued soon as I couldn’t find any place online that still has it in full sizes. Found this old school workwear store here in Mamaroneck, wow. Like traveling back in time. But, the first few trial runs already gave me bloody heels! Can anyone shine some light on if this type of heel abrasion will go away? (I have not had a single pair of Red Wing new that didn’t give me pain!)

Old military trick - put them on with socks you normally wear, soak them completely, and wear them all day...They'll mold to your feet.

Red Wing Flat Box Beckmans

Got these navy boots today, beautiful rich, flat russet with matching eyelet & lace. This type of heavily coated steerhide seems to be prevailing the market back in the day, from 50s to 70s, then it just died off. The majority of 50s Sears, Ward, independent jackets on the market today in the color brown are made of this steer, dull, russet. I wonder what happened to it. At the same time, the ATF & Corcoran military boots are still made of it, so it still exists. If anyone has any insight on where to source it that’d be great.

Kicked my stone step today & a piece of coating immediately chipped off. It is what it is.

Then I pressed down more cracks begin to form. Had to rub with leather honey.

Viberg service boots, worth it? Or stay with Aldens: the Viberg use stitch down construction, seems to be a more intricate technique than Goodyear? Anyone could shine some light? I handled a pair this weekend, they are beefy & heavy, Alden’s are dress boots compared with these. Even the Whites semi dress can’t beat the solidity of the construction.

I didn't realize they made a flat box version of the Beckman. I have a pair of the regular Beckman's in oxblood with the commando sole. Your version seems to have a Dainite-type sole?

The flat box version was only made for the European and Asian market. I happened to get a pair because Nordstrom Rack had some seconds they were clearancing out.

The sole is something else. Here's a photo:

These actually came with the box marked as "made in the USA, sole imported and assembled in the USA" or something similar (I don't have the box in front of me).

Flat box means there's no toe box re-enforcement. Most Red Wing have a leather, steel toe or other lining on the inside to hold up the toe box area. The flat box ones don't have this so they'll collapse after some use and look kind of like this photo that Red Wing put out when they started selling these:

Hi, Sheepdog. Where'd you find those boots? I had a pair decades ago that I found at an Army/Navy in N.J. that, if I remember correctly, were from a South American army (don't remember which). They were great boots and lasted for years.
