Spent most of last week unplugged in the mountains of northwest Georgia to celebrate another year on this earth.

Spent most of the time on that back porch looking at this...

Drove into Chattanooga Saturday to enjoy the view.

Thank you, Eric!
Congratulations on your birthday Dale! Hope you went to the battlefields at Missionary Ridge & Lookout Mountain.
Thanks Jack. Didn't hit the battlefields this trip, was there earlier in the summer. Chattanooga is a quick and easy drive from Birmingham, through some beautiful countryside. We go up that way often.
Happy birthday Dale! That looks like a great place to be.
Thanks, Bob! It's a good one, and thankfully close enough to enjoy fairly often.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CUZ!

The Waipoua Forest featuring Tāne Mahuta, Lord of the Forest, and Hokianga Harbour are a couple of my favourite places in the world.
Etsuko’s photo from the car doesn’t do this place justice (how I wish she would learn to focus a camera!). The New Zealand forest is unlike any other I have seen, not better, and certainly not worse, but distinctively New Zealand.

Beautiful shots even though they probably won't do the place enough justice. Enjoy it, Gary.

Yesterday we took a tour down 90 Mile Beach to Cape Reinga, the northernmost part of New Zealand.
90 Mile Beach is actually about 90km (60ish miles) long.

The beach itself is a State Highway, but you are best advised to avoid driving it unless you’re in a big 4WD.
Etsuko wore some floppy headwear

I was the only one in our group to climb to the top of the dunes. It was worth the effort as everyone else missed out on some spectacular 360 degree views. I’m afraid my panoramic shots again, don’t do the view justice.

It got quite blustery up there. I had to hold on to my Stylemaster.

It doesn’t get any more New Zealand than a cabbage tree.

Or a New Zealand Tea Tree, known worldwide by its Māori name, Manuka.

Fascinating adventure! I really am enjoying visiting your neighborhood. I have been googling up maps and pics to get even more info. I traveled to New Zealand to ski decades ago. Man what a trip and what a country. I definitely need to make time to travel south again.

You and Etsuko enjoy the adventure. Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip.

Cheers, Eric -

The Manuka wouldn’t fit in the last post, so here it is…
81644E99-35DD-4CE0-A0C1-339B3D197385.jpeg

The bees, not really visible in the photo were ignoring all the flowers nearby and swarming around the Manuka.

The Pohutukawa is also known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree. It blossoms a bright red all over the country around Christmas time.
