Yeah, I talked to Tom Dean a couple of days ago and they are still waiting for Hatco to get back to them. This is gonna happen folks. It's just a slow project. It's not like I don't have a hat to wear-LOL!

I've been away for a while (little league baseball and work demanding my attention) and come back to find this thread. Wow. I wouldn't have dreamed this possible. I'll be in line with the rest. Handlebar Bart and Mr. Paladin are MIA? Tell me it ain't so...

Howdy folks!,

I have been lurking for quite some time, and would like to ask a (perhaps dumb newb) question. I have an OR with the cattleman's crease that I really like. I would like a fedora pinch, but feel I would screw it up since it's fairly modern (1970's?). I see the new Strat offerings, but realize there is a difference between vintage and new. Why will the Fedorafest be better than a new Strat?

Thanks for helping me out!

Read through this thread, although given RBH's caveat, this hat might not see the light of day.

Basically, this hat will not be blocked into the teardrop crease as the modern production model is and I believe the felt is slightly different as well.

But really, read through the thread and you will be able to piece it together.

Shame if this doesn't work out.
I think it would be a great marketing coup for Hatco to come up with a modern product that appeals to the enthusiasts. Maybe they are just not geared up for it any longer?

Thanks for the news RBH, even if it is not what we were hoping to hear. Is this something definative, or just a gut feeling?

Has the FF Strat production been deemed unmarketable to the masses, or is it not financially and mutually beneficial to the two main parties involved?

Then again, you do not need to get into the details as most of us were just spectators to this effort. I guess if and when the time comes you will give us a few days to commiserate, say thanks to the main torch bearers, and then close the thread.

Hatco must not have the ability to make a hat of that spec anymore. It would not be possible to get a quality vintage spec hat from them. I think Akubra would be able to do it.
Perhaps we should see if we could do it thru them instead of Hatco. While for sentimental reason we would all love to see a Stetson Strat but today's Stetson is not the old Stetson an has their production geared to their marketing. An unfortunately this has kind do tied their hands on making a hat to the spec we are wanting. While Stetson trades on their heritage they do not have the ability to produce at the level.

How would this hat differ from the Campdraft Deluxe? If it is just a matter of color and trim, we already know that Hatsdirect will consider it. They just want a sufficient number of firm orders before starting production.

I may have to drown my sorrows with an Alessandria....

Actually, would Borsalino be a possibility? Does anyone have a contact there?

Would Borsalino be a possibility for what? In my opinion, aside from the bow, the current Allesandria as sold by Bencraft Hats is what you'd want anyways.

I'm currently getting a Beaver Brand hat made as a "Stratoliner" but I suspect the crown is not as high as the Stratoliner was... but my Borsalinos are.

If this Stetson actually gets made I'm likely to buy it but if the delay is long enough, I'll have everything I need from Borsalino and Beaver Brand.

By the way, the ribbon on the Camdraft is wider and the brim is flanged less.

Hi

I called the Saint Joseph outlet concerning a Stetson Temple for my kid. They didn't have one, and the lady said that when they came in the OUTLET price would be $129.00. I bought one last Thanksgiving for $70.00 (maybe $80.00). Apparently, there is a lack of bunnies, I can't remember her exact wording.

Not having seen a Stetson I'm SURE was Silverbelly, I wasn't on the list for a new Stratoliner, but more on the fence. I hope this all gets worked out.

Such a shame hatco. Whether this is actually true or not, this is how the "enthusiast" community will interpret a failure to produce this hat. But I don't think they really even care if we think that. Our opinion does not financially impact them. If it did, they'd get this thing made.

In other words, they don't see the upside in doing it and therefore aren't concerned about the downside of failing to make it.

...

Matt Range told us that the hat he brought to the FF3 dinner had been made for Diane Keaton to wear in a movie a couple years back...

Hatco has the ability--and I really like how everyone jump to the conclusion that the dream of a FF3 hat is done just because the "ball is back in Hatco's court" and that someone (who may know more) said it doesn't look good. As I read this thread, this hat was going to be a custom/factory hat for a hat maker to sell. My local hatter has several hats he has had made solely for his store by Hatco. Maybe they just need more time to work things through. Its not like they asked Buckaroo Hatters to take preorders and then said we aren't making the hat. And I refuse to say this is dead...meanwhile, I bought a nice gray Modern Strat. Nice felt--as this hat was going to use the same felt, I don't think it would be too much of a stretch for Hatco to do a custon run of high crowned hats.

Bottom line is that timeline for purchase was fall...fall just got here in Central Texas! Until I hear Mike say we are finished with the hat, there is still hope...Doug
