Well, this is my first post on this forum, and I find it rather fitting, as I had just turned sixty - five two months ago and restarted to the wearing of a Panama for the summer/felt for cooler weather.

I started reading the forum's posting comments at No 1 and arrived at this thread today, being impressed with not only the forum (The Fedora Lounge) but also those that are here as it's Denizens. Thank you all for my (continuing) education.

Regards,

Welcome to the forum -30-. Always good to spot another T.O. type here. Former newspaper man, perhaps? (just curious about the -30-). I used to proofread for the Globe when I went to university a million years ago.

For some reason I just keep getting older. :( And this is the 2nd time I've posted an age in this thread.

30 now, five years spent on the Lounge. Hope to see five more come and go here.

"Former newspaper man, perhaps? (just curious about the -30-)."
QUOTE DNO.

Thank you Sire!

Long story short: My father worked for C N Telegraphs, hence the -30-, and I was once employed by A W Miles Undertakers when they were at 30 St Clair Avenue West. Gordon Sincair, (I was not a "fan") being a newspaper man and the later a broadcaster at C F R B next door to us, always joked that when his time was up he wanted us to "do our duty" with his remains. As you will no doubt remember, when The Toronto Telegram newspaper "died", they printed on the front page a large red 30. So may I say "That's the rest of the story"?

Interesting. I used to work at the Globe when it was in that gorgeous deco building at York and King. When the Telly went belly up, they moved to the quite new Telegram building down on Front, east of Spadina. Worked there as well but it had nowhere near the ambiance of the King and York site. Anyway, delighted to see " -30- " being used again!
