It's been too long since I've been able to get to Vegas... Anybody else ever get that way? Anyway, what's your favorite venue in Lost Wages? I love hanging out just about anywhere on the Hard Rock property, but I also love hanging out at the Voodoo Lounge... Share what you can!

Never been there. But I'm sure whatever was my favorite, they'd tear down. Like the Flamingo. That place looked so cool, with the 50's Caddies parked in front.

Since I live here, I don't really do casino's that much. I worked on 'em, so I don't really want to hang in 'em that much. Well, except for the Stations, and they are off the Strip and Down Town. Love the buffets there. One of the places we do our Sunday Family get togethers. Basically locals geared areas.
Haven't been to clubs lately either. Found out not to long ago that the ones I used to haunt when I used to be a club goer have been closed down. I am guessing since the casinos have opened clubs inside themeselves.
It used to be the Beach and Pinkees. I still can't figure out why the Beach would close down since it is right by the convention center. Figure it would get a lot of biz, it was always packed when I used to go. [huh]

Unfortunately, alot of the old places are being torn down. My personal favorite is the Tropicana, which is, I believe, slated to meet the wrecking ball.

My favorite is Cesear's Palace...

There is still some tacky-charm out front with the fountain that Evel Kneivel jumped over, and the staff is always attentive. I also like the subdued lights (or am I wearing my shades indoors?)

Many of the newer resorts have way too much flash and glitz to have any charm...

For chow, even though they're both national/not truly "local color", I have two must-hits every time I'm down there:
1. Buca di Beppo for Italian
2. Ghirardelli's Ice Cream Parlor

The buffet at the Rio ain't too bad, but it used to be better. (It's still about the only buffet I don't grouse about when relatives want to hit one.)

Used to love the Black Spot at the Treasure Island, before MGM trashed the place out and ruined everything... :rage: Even would ask for a particular waiter by name, if that tells you what kinda record the guy had!

A prof raves about Battista's Hole in the Wall, but every time I'm down there, they're closed.:(

Imperial Palace ain't too bad, once you get past the "run-down" stereotype, they actually had pretty good eats.

Nine Fine Irishmen at New York New York was a nice little Irish-inspired pub, too.

(No, I don't go clubbing--I usually travel with relatives; "go wild" for me means nursing two drinks over three hours or more.)

The Sahara and the Riviera are still around. Imperial Palace has cheap rooms, but it's center strip so it's easy to walk to other places. It also has low minimum on craps during the weekend. Flamingo is good. Stratosphere is in the boonies but has cheap rooms.

Well the last time I was there was 2005 so it's been a couple of years. I took my best friend for a week long girls trip for her birthday. I love the fountain at Bellagio. I love just walking through the Venitian. But most of our time was spent shamelessly dancing on the bar at Coyote Ugly (Another story for another time ;). Hardly lady-like but I was younger and wilder and it was after all a girls trip. I always have to go to the Stage Deli. There are a couple of places off the strip whose names escape me now that are mostly haunted by locals. My mom and dad go there a couple of times a year so they know where all the good quiet places are.

What needs to be said about this chic Las Vegas casino that has not already been spread through the grapevine of the hip and cool?

Well, that it actually provides the best balance in Vegas for a group of people some of who want to mix it up at the Ghost bar or The Playboy Club and others who want to gamble/watch sports.

The Nine steakhouse is my favorite place to dine in Vegas with amazing food and decent prices for upscale Vegas.

The Playboy Club is another favorite of mine. Located on the 52nd floor of the Palms' Fantasy Tower, the Club has floor-to-ceiling windows, offering outstanding views of the Las Vegas Strip and the valley. The decor incorporates rich, dark colors, plush leather sofas and Baccarat crystal chandeliers, which all create a vintage Vegas vibe. And then of course there are the "Bunnies" to look at.

Staying at the hotel is a good idea if you want to get into the clubs/bars without waiting in a huge line. Prepare yourself to grease just about anyone if you want extra attention/tables at these places as well. It is worth the money, though if you can afford it as the service steps it up dramatically when there is money to be made.

Last I heard the Tropicana starts remodeling in September It will be a mix of hotel and condos...............why oh why...................
The Frontier closes on Sunday.

Also living here, I don't go to "The Strip" much either.

check out joel Robichauds at the Mansions in the MGM Grand. Very, very pricey but well worth it, one of the truly great dining experiences. The 16 course meal is an amazing adveture in fine cuisine and service. The bar is a thing of beauty.

The Ghost Bar at the top of the Palms is my fav. Great for cigars outside on the patio with the clear section of the floor 46 stories up.

For general casino hangout, it'd be the Sahara (good view of bikinis at Wet-N-Wild next door)

We usually go to Vegas when relatives come to visit from Hawaii. Since the California Hotel downtown caters to Hawaiians, we stay there. I find the casino smokier than most, but the downtown location is convenient and I spend most of my time wandering around, looking at the various styles of architecture and decor.

The coffee shop in The Cal has a Hawaiian slant, e.g., Portuguese sausage and eggs, because of the Hawaiian clientele. There's also a little cafe with predominately Hawaiian fare such as saimin. (Actually, that's Japanese but popular in Hawaii.)

By far, my favorite food is at the Hofbrauhaus. They have a separate beer hall and beer garden, so it's like two restaurants in one. I prefer the quieter, quasi-outdoors environment in the beer garden, but others may like the more raucous beer hall.

The food is fabulous and, as should be expected, the beer is wunderbar! My only complaint is that I can't stop eating before they have to cart me out on a forklift.

I'm going to be staying at the Palms in 3 weeks. I've got to check out the Playboy Club and the other joint they opened next to it. I usually stay at the Flamingo or Imperial Palace because they're center strip. If I stay downtown I stay at The Golden Nuggett. I've never stayed at the Californian but the casino looks good.

If I'm in Vegas and you need to find me, look no further then the Poker Room in the Venetian. The Venetian is all new (one of the newest on the Strip, methinks) and as such it's amazingly clean. The decor is complex and, fittingly, Venetian, but not Tacky the way Ceasars Palace or Excalibur tend to be. The casino, paired with the incredibly cool canal shops, and Club Tao, make the Venetian my favorite spot in Vegas and my favorite hotel in the world.

Also, a tip: If you want cheap room rates in Vegas, check out Orbitz.com. My family and I stayed in 2 seperate rooms at the Venetian for 10 days for just 740 USD per person (this included airfare from Winnipeg, Canada). Heck of a good deal!

Cheers
Craig
