During the summer, I always look forward to any southern-style barbecue. We sometimes do country-style ribs, and other times we'll make frogmore stew, which is a concoction of shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and an obscene amount of spices all boiled together in a pot.

During the fall, my grandmother makes broccoli casserole and my mum makes cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving. Coupled with the smoked turkey, they make for the meal of the year.

Christmas is pretty much the same, except for the candy mum makes. Fudge on the bottom, caramel / peanuts in the center, hard chocolate on top.

To counter all this, I jog three miles every other day. :p

Oysters on the half shell is awesome, but I also love them barbequed with garlic butter drizzled on them after they pop and a slash of Tapatio hot sauce! Now that is 'good eatin' food'!

As for seasonal foods, I would have to go for these...

Spring/Summer - oven roasted or grilled asparagus with balsamic vinegar, BBQ corn on the cob, BBQed oysters

Fall/winter - pumpkin pie, smoked Alaskan silver salmon, goulash, coffee cookies, roasted turkey breast with rice stuffing
Wow, I've never had oysters prepared that way. It sounds divine!
I like oysters best on the half shell, but I have also had them Rockefeller style. It's a baked oyster with a combination of bread crumbs, garlic, spinach, and olive oil or cheese, depending on where you get them. They can be very rich, so I can't eat too many, but they are really yummy. Hem and I have a weekly (sometimes more than once a week, which is really bad) tradition of going to Legal Seafood, now a chain restaurant but it started out as a family owned seafood store turned local restaurant. It has the freshest seafood I've ever had anywhere, and the service can't be beat. We each get a dozen mixed oysters with extra horse radish and a cup of their award winning clam chowder or lobster bisque. It's quite an indulgence, but so worth it. We have had oysters at other places in the area, but they are never as good as Legal's. Actually, everything on their menu is perfect, I've never had a bad meal there. If anyone is on the east coast and has a Legal's near them, I'd highly recommend going there.

Oh gosh - what seasonal foods DON'T I like? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and my husband and I always go all out and whip up a ton of food for just the two of us. Makes for great leftovers! lol

Egg nog, hot apple cider, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, turkey with cornbread dressing and gravy, green bean casserole (I know, but hey, it is comfort food), cranberry apple relish, sweet potatoes, pumpkin bisque...

I could go on and on!

I love my Mom's christmas sugar cookies - festive cut outs complete with multi-colored frosting decorations, they're really little cookie artworks. My aunt's spritzer cookies are deadly delicious too.

Around Valentines I inhale the Necco candy conversation hearts, and then at Easter I eat lots of those marshmallow chicks and bunnies (I think they're made by Brach's?).

If I could just eat sugar for the rest of my life, I would be very tempted to do it. :)

Mexican Wedding cookies and my mom's Candy Cane cookies. Sausage balls (the Bisquick ones, go really well with red wine btw...), Aunt Janet's Rum cake, EGG NOG! and of course tamales! (with catsup... because I'm weird...and it is good.)

Has anybody else had Krispy Kream Donuts in their community as a seasonal favorite? It got to be downright ridiculous around here. I think it was about this time of year that the donuts would come into town and literally lines of people would be waiting to buy their box (or in many cases, boxes). A few years ago, they built their own bakery, with of course, a complimentary drive thru for those who are in a hurry. I think the novelty has worn off a bit.

Krispy Kreme tends to be overly sweet in their version of the classic donut. Heard they expanded too fast and now that the rage has died down, a significant number of stores had to close.

I like Krispy Kreme, something about the glaze. Their pumpkin spice cake donuts are seasonal (they have them out now) and they are to die for! I bought a half dozen just last week, in the drive thru. lol

I agree! But then, I just don't seem to handle high sugar foods well anymore! What's amazing about these things is that they can sit out until they are hard and all you have to do is put them in a microwave for a few seconds, and ...wala! good again...I heard it's because of all the butter they put into those things (yet another reason to stay away!!!)

All this talk of holiday food(with the exception of the fruitcake.......[huh]) makes me hungry. You ladies and gentleman are amazing.

As for me, its Fondue. The family does fondue every christmas eve, and then blueberry muffins and bacon every christmas morning. Its tradition and delicious.
