Reporter : "How many times have you been injured ?"
Marine : "You mean today ?"

nice :eusa_clap
BTW wonder why the Marine didn't correct the reporter for confusing wounded and injured....
John

maybe he said "wounded", and I just messed up the translation.
But I remember to have been stunned a whole minute myself, when I read that long time ago.

"There will be no withdrawal without written orders and these orders shall never be issued."

"I wonder whether those of our political masters who have been put in charge of the defense of the country can distinguish a mortar from a motor; a gun from a howitzer; a guerilla from a gorilla, although a great many resemble the latter."

Sam Manekshaw (1914-2008)

I rather like this one:

Major Tony Hibbert MC arriving in the German city of Kiel in the final days of WW2. He arrived in a city that was home to around 60,000 German soldiers but he was in command of just 500 men. He had broken the ceasefire to advance 60 miles in German held territory to reach the city so things were somewhat tense. Hibbert was unarmed since he had a broken leg and couldn't use both a gun and a walking stick.
Confronted by a German Navy captain with a machine-pistol, Hibbert told him:

"Help me up these steps and let's get this bloody war finished."

(postscript: two days later, when the main British advance arrived, Major Hibbert was put under arrest by the commander of 8 Corps for breaching the ceasefire)

I'm not sure this counts, as it may well be totally made up. I've just finished reading "The Wolf Sea" by Robert Low, about a bunch of Vikings:

"You see many strange things in battle.

But you never see a cat on the battlefield."

Heard over MiG Alley during the Korean War in 1952, during a large dogfight between USAF F-86 Sabres and communist MiG-15s:

-"Lead, they're shooting at us!"
-"That's OK, they're allowed to do that."

You need three things to start a war. Money, money, and more money.
