I'm sure this has been posted here in some form or fashion, but for the life of me I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.....

What would you consider to be your "Ideal" or "perfect" hat in regards to shape, dimensions, color, etc.......?

If you have pictures all the better!

At this point I consider my "perfect" hat to be a fedora with a teardrop or "C" crown.....4" high at it's highest point with a pretty fair amount of rake. The brim, 2"-2&1/4"...raw edge. Well defined pinch.

Color.....this is the hard part for me....either a chocolate brown w/black band, or steel grey with a black band.

I'm afraid i don't think i have a favourite. I like all styles really, and most seem to work on me. Don't like stingy brims though. The brim has to be substantial.

Having said that, i do love my $20 black wool felt porkpie. An absolute piece of garbage when you think about what really good hats are made of, but i love it all the same. And next it would probably be the classic beauty of the Homburg.

It's great to see there is interest in the porkpie, after I saw this hat worn by jazz greats like wardell grey, lester young, and thelonious monk, I had to get me one. Like Baron it's black wool felt porkpie, and it looks great.

Add another "occasional" pork guy

I have a black Dobbs with a bright red liner from the 60s, and an older dark brown mallory that looks a lot like Lester Young's. When the spirit moves me that way.

Favorites though, two: 2 1/4" bound edge C crown Optimo, light green with a very dark green band; 2 1/2" cavanagh edge navy blue pinch front center dent Knox, midnight blue ribbon. At least, those are the favorites today.

I agree with Biltmore Bob now that's A classic hat right there. To bring back those nostalgic images I certainly would like to have that on my head.
