I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this

(and yes I searched correctly Scott :p)

Every October before Halloween I try to watch these movies....

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Interview With The Vampire
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Disney)
Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton)

Does anyone else have favorites?

Being a recovering horror movie junky I could name a billion.

Buuuuut the original Fright Night from the 80's is a classic mention.

Once every few years I have to watch the original Bela Lugosi Dracula. I can't believe how many people knock this movie.

Halloween - of course! Actually, anything early John Carpenter. Also the original of The Haunting or the TV version of The Lady in Black (although that hasn't been on in ages), sometimes you just want a really good ghost story rather than a visceral horror.

And with the kids - The Nightmare Before Christmas (we watch that every Chrismas too) and Monster House, which I love.

There are quite a few to choose from. Not so many good ones made now. I would recommend 'Black Christmas' - the original Bob Clark 1974 film. It is a Christmas based horror but is interesing for fans of Carpenter's Halloween as it pre-dates it. I know 'Donnie Darko' isn't a Halloween film but it is set in October so I like to watch it.

We've already watched all of these except for Disney's Sleepy Hollow. Our son has watched the Great Pumpkin about six times already. He also likes Rankin and Bass' Mad Monster Party.

I would also add, the original Universal monsters; Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman.
In addition, the original Halloween and a Nightmare on Elm Street. I love horror films and could keep adding films here.

Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite. I remember taking my young daugther to see it when it orginally came out. She is now 24 years old and we both love it still.

I love love love "Black Christmas", and though I'll watch it a few times over the year it's a Christmas ritual! On Halloween, it's my ritual to watch... "Halloween". (Big early John Carpenter fan).

Besides that, every year I go and buy maybe 10-12 new horror films for Halloween - a mix of golden oldies (sometimes not so golden) and 50's atomic age horror and 70's/early 80's slasher/exploitation (don't bother much with anything made after that) and if they run anything decent on the telly slot that into the timetable, too. Oh, and one MST3K per Halloween, too! Need to have a little  alongside the :kick: and :behindsofa: !

Great topic, Rue - I'm really interested in hearing what the Loungers are watching for the holiday!

I love The Thing from Another World; in fact, there's hardly a sci-fi that I don't like.
I remember being a kid and being afraid of Invaders from Mars
