Krampus is the dark companion of St. Nicholas, the traditional European winter gift-bringer who rewards good children each year on December 6. The kindly old Saint leaves the task of punishing bad children to a hell-bound counterpart known by many names across the continent — Knecht Ruprecht, Certa, Perchten, Black Peter, Schmutzli, Pelznickel, Klaubauf, and Krampus. Usually seen as a classic devil with horns, cloven hooves and monstrous tongue, but can also be spotted as a sinister gentleman dressed in black or a hairy man-beast. Krampus punishes the naughty children, swatting them with switches and rusty chains before dragging them in baskets to a fiery place below.

I thought Black Peter was the name of the spy Krampus had? Parents would keep a small doll of Black Peter in the bedroom of the children and he would report the misdeeds they performed back to Krampus. But considering how far and wide the legend is spread, it probably has its variations.

I love Corelli's Christmas Concerto but I don't know if that counts as a Christmas song? Here's part of anyway:

Helga Natt (O Holy Night) with legendary Golden Era tenor Jussi Björling is a Christmas tradition in my family:

The most played Christmas record in both our and my grandparents' house was a Mahalia Jackson one (my grandmother was a huge Mahalia-fan). Her Silent Night gives me chills.

Arguably two of the absolute greatest voices of the 20th century...

And then I love Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby :)

Two more songs that remind me of Christmas Eve, trying to get where you're going during that last hustle and bustle.

The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping"

"Please Come Home for Christmas" by The Eagles

I work in retail so I get burned out on Christmas carols being played all day long. But I must admit I always enjoy Perry Como's Dream a Christmas Dream.

Hi Folks

So many great songs for this festive time of year. Each of us have our own favorite.
This is such a great joyous time of year to be with family and friends and to listen to your favorite song.
I am listening to Johnny Mathias as I type.
Best regards
CCJ

We play many records by the "Trinity Choir" Christmas eve and day, including "Rejoice, O Sons of Earth", the electric "Joy to the World", "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", "Christmas Hyms and Carols, parts 1 and 2",
And the acoustic "O Come, All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night", in addition to the usual Schumann-Heink "Stille Nacht", the Bjorling "O Holy Night" and the various Edison Mixed Quartet Christmas discs, "Christmas in Hollywood" by Shirley Mason(Gennet) Ernie Hare's amusing "Santa Claus Hides in the Phonograph, and William Sterling Battis' amazing monologue version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" complete our holiday musical prgramming.

I'm not terribly original as I love all the deep Christmas classics.

Nat King Cole - The First Noel, The Christmas Song, Silent Night,
Brenda Lee - Jingle Bell Rock
Burl Ives - Holly Jolly Christmas, Santa Claus is coming
Anne Murray - The Little Drummer Boy
Jimmy Durant - Frosty The Snowman
Dean Martin - Baby, it's cold outside
Eartha Kitt -Santa Baby (if you dont love that one shame!!)
The original Mr. Grinch, not sure who sang it but I think it was Tennessee Ernie Ford?
Johnny Mathis - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Frank Sinatra - Jingle Bells
Fred Astaire - Santa Claus is coming to town.

Almost the same playlist goes for me! Especially Nat King Cole is one of my absolute favourites!
